McGill says yes to Utah offer

While on an unofficial visit to Utah last month, Cerritos S Keith McGill (6-4, 214) decided he'd seen enough and committed to the Ute coaching staff. While he's excited about the opportunity to play Pac 10 football once he arrives, he said there is a slight chance he will visit one or two other schools officially during the season...

"I took a visit out (to Utah) to see the school and meet the coaches and I just loved it," McGill told JCFootball.com. "I really had a great time. I loved Salt Lake City and coach (Kyle) Whittingham is one of the best and he's had a ton of success there.

"Nothing against the Mountain West Conference, but they don't get the same respect that the Pac 10 does and the fact that coach Whittingham and his staff have had that success and they'll be playing in the Pac 10 soon, that really made me want to be a part of things there."

In addition to his offer from Utah, he also had written offers from San Diego State, New Mexico, Oregon State, San Jose State and Montana and was getting heavy interest from Arizona and Arizona State as well as Kansas State and Auburn.

"There's a slight chance I will visit Kansas State when they play Nebraska in October, but I'm not really sure," McGill said. "Right now that's set up, but I might not go. I just need to see how things stand and make sure I'm taking care of what I need to take care of."

As a freshman last fall, McGill was a presence for the Falcons at free safety, posting over 30 tackles and five interceptions, taking back three for scores.

Physically, McGill has exactly what teams are looking for in their free safety, running a 4.33 forty time while posting a 36-inch vertical.

In the classroom, McGill is a solid student and is on pace to finish his AA degree in December with three years to play two wherever he ends up.\
