Garden City DT talks recruiting

A player proving to be one of the top JUCO prospects in the country this year is Garden City DT Maurice Couch (6-2, 295). He's already got a dozen offers to his name and on Monday USC decided to throw their hat in the ring. With all the attention, Couch admits there are a few standing out and he talked about who he has near the top of his list right now…

"USC offered me today," Couch told JCFootball.com Monday afternoon. "I spoke with both coach Kiffins (Lane and Monte) about it and they said they were offering me and sending me the paperwork."

The talented prospect who hails originally from Orlando, Florida now claims offers from the Trojans, Arkansas State, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Marshall, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Troy and UAB and is getting heavy interest from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas State and Auburn.

"Ole Miss, Kansas and South Carolina are all wanting me to visit and they will probably be three of my visits," Couch said. "USC is probably going to get one too, but now I'm just starting to look at them a little more since they offered.

"I think a few schools want to see my summer school grades and classes before they offer, but they keep telling me how high up their list I am."

With his quickness and size, Couch is a player who could play a multitude of positions for a team, including defensive end in a 3-4 scheme or he can play the three-technique defensive tackle spot in a 4-3.

"I've been working on my first step and just making sure I know my assignments," Couch said. "I really want to show people I can be a threat against the pass or the run, so I've been working hard in the weight room and out on the football field running so I can be more explosive this year."

Couch redshirted last fall after transferring to Garden City and will graduate next May with three years to play two wherever he ends up.
