Team Preview: Pasadena

Pasadena head coach James Kuk was nice enough to talk to us about some of his top players heading into the 2010 season. He's got loads of speed and talent returning from last year's team...

RB Telvin McMillian "Telvin has a great combination of speed and power. He's about 6-2, 220 pounds and he's got great speed so he'll be a dual-threat guy for us with his ability to get outside, but also pound it. He's kind of moved around a little bit, so people have lost track of him, but I think he's really going to catch people's eyes this fall when he hits the field for us.

WR Kemonte Bateman "Kemonte is a guy a lot of people will remember from when he was one of the top wide receivers in the nation as a high schooler. We love what he brings to the table. He's quick and this spring he ran a 4.39 for us, so he has the deep speed you like as well. He'll be big-time for us this year and with his size (6-1, 185) he'll be a guy recruited by a ton of schools."

WR Devance Harris "Devance is a local kid who is about 6-2, 180 pounds. He comes from a solid program at Charter Oak (Covina, Ca.). He can really stretch the defense with his speed and he's got great body control and good hands."

WR Demonte Bell "He played well for us last fall and had a phenomenal spring this year. He's poised to have a breakout year for us and he'll be a player to keep an eye on this fall."

WR Michael Harrison "He isn't very big, but he is very quick and a guy we like to use on bubble screens and quick hitters. He's about 5-5, 160 pounds and we'll use him on specialty plays. He needs to find the right situation at the next level, but he'll make someone really happy if they figure out how to use him correctly."

TE Robert Williams "Robert was a full-qualifier out of high school and redshirted last year. He's got a great combo of size and strength and really soft hands. We feel like he can really help us this fall."

OG Bradley Henderson "He'll be a true sophomore this year and at 6-2, 285, he's probably a better fit inside, but he can play all three (guard, center, tackle) of the line positions. He's a very hard worker, he's smart and last year he was named 2nd Team All-Conference, so the expectations are high this year."

OT Rich Washington "Richard redshirted last fall. He'll graduate next June and he'll have three to play three after this season. He's big and athletic and will be a solid player for us."

DT Manako Tuifua "He's a pure run-stuffer and our best interior defensive lineman. He benches 360 and squats over 500 and he's really hard-nosed. He goes about 5-11, 300 pounds and he uses leverage really well. He started every game for us last year and he'll be really solid for us this fall."

DT/DE Carlton Hudson "He'll be the three-technique defensive tackle in our system and sometimes he'll move outside to be a situational defensive end. He redshirted last year to get himself ahead academically and he's used that time to do well in the classroom and he had a great offseason of conditioning for us. He's very quick and very explosive, so schools will be all over him this year."

DE Kyle Bailey "He started at left defensive end for us last year and he's probably a better pass-rusher than anything right now. We like his athleticism and explosiveness and I think he'll have a big season for us."

LB Kimball Niumatalolo "He's an outside linebacker for us. He'll play on the weakside. He just returned from his (LDS) mission, so he redshirted last year. He'll be done in May (of 2011) and he'll be a three to play three kid once he leaves."

LB Cordell Robinson "Cordell redshirted last fall and will be a redshirt sophomore. He'll be our SAM (strongside) linebacker this fall. He's a really hard worker and he's a good athlete. He'll be a two for two kid after the season."

LB Will Do "Will plays the middle and he's got the size (6-1, 220) to be really effective. He signed with Fresno State out of high school and redshirted there in 2008. He was a full-qualifier, so there's no worries about him in the classroom. He's from Temple City (Ca.) and will be a player to watch this season."

LB Andrew Gonzales "He also plays the middle linebacker spot and has good size (5-11, 240). He redshirted last year and will be done mid-year and have two to play two."

S Tevin McCaskill "Tevin was highly recruited out of high school. He comes from Miami (Fl.) Northwestern which is one of the best high school programs in the country. He's very fast – he ran a 4.3 for us this spring – and he really came on in the championship game for us. He's rangy and very explosive and I'd say he's one of the most athletic players I've coached here."

CB Omar Smith "He's a big, physical corner at 6-2, 180. He's also really quick and he's got 4.4 speed too. He's tall and he's got long arms so he makes it tough on quarterbacks. One thing that really helps him is that he has good hips and that allows us to match him up on the best wide receiver on the other team all game long."

CB Darique Taylor "He isn't big, but he plays bigger than his size would indicate. We like his speed (4.4) and quickness a lot."

CB Davion Amie "He's roughly in the same mold as Darique. He played as a freshman for us and looked great and we'll see how he fits in for us this fall. All in all we have three really good corners that we feel like we can count on."

K/P Brian Gonzalez "Last year he mainly focused on punting duties, but this year he'll be our kicker because we went out and found a good punter. Brian has a strong leg and it's something he's more comfortable doing. He's very accurate too, so we think he'll be a great candidate for a big school after we finish the season."
