Vaughn prepares for big sophomore season

One of the top JUCO wideouts in the entire country resides in northern California, but San Mateo's Rahsaan Vaughn (6-0, 190) isn't resting on his laurels. He's been hard at work in the weight room as well as in the classroom, preparing for a big 2010 season. caught up with Vaughn recently and he updated us on recruiting and which WAC school could be close to offering...

"Things are going good, I'm just getting ready for my season," Vaughn told "I want to have a big year and feel like we can do something special, but we can't just think we can walk out there and play. We have to prepare like we're the underdog all the time and that will motivate us to get better."

As a freshman last season, Vaughn put up solid numbers -- 17 receptions for 238 yards and three touchdowns -- in eight games using his 4.37 speed to blow past defenders, but this fall he wants to become a threat almost anywhere on the field.

"I can do it all at receiver," Vaughn said. "If you need me to go outside, I can do that. I have the speed to get down the field, but last year was really the first time I was a 'down the field' receiver.

"Usually, I was the guy who ran the intermediate routes and made plays with the ball in my hands."

Recruiting continues to be steady for the talented wideout with four offers -- from Oregon, Arizona, Arkansas State and Utah -- and a WAC school has told him they'd like to throw their hat in the ring as well.

"Hawaii said they like me a lot and want to get in the mix for me, but they haven't offered yet so I'm not sure how serious that is," Vaughn said. "Other than that, the schools that have offered have talked to me about visiting this season and I'm trying to figure out when I can do that."

Vaughn is on pace to get his AA degree in May of 2011 and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
