Buck gets it done for DuPage

After a standout freshman season in 2009, College of DuPage LB Terran Buck (6-2, 234) is a player to keep an eye on this fall. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented linebacker and he let us know that he's moved from the outside, to the all-important middle linebacker spot and said he's ready for the heavy lifting he has to do this year to help get the Chaparrals to the post-season...

Buck prepped at West (Aurora, Il.) High School and enjoyed a solid career there, but he was unable to qualify for a D-1 scholarship.

"I actually was all set to enroll at Joliet, but I ran into some complications," Buck admitted to JCFootball.com recently. "I ran into some problems getting them my transcripts from my high school and I guess at Joliet they have a deadline on getting that stuff in and when it didn't happen I was sorta out of luck.

"I came up to DuPage and it was a better fit anyway. I liked the staff here and we're a talented team and it was closer to my family, so it was a good situation for me."

As a freshman last fall, Buck, who played the weakside position for the Chaparrals, totaled 91 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, one sack and three interceptions for a team that went 5-5.

"We were good last year, but I think this year we're going to be a lot better," Buck said. "I feel like we've gelled together as a team and I think we're going to play really well, but it all gets started this weekend when we play Grand Rapids and they are a good team too."

While he played outside last fall, this year Buck has moved inside and said he feels comfortable playing almost anywhere.

"I feel like I can do whatever a team needs me to do, inside or outside," Buck said. "I have good speed (4.63) and quickness and I anticipate well.

"Coaches said they like how I tackle and my instincts are good too, so I think I can play anywhere a team needs me to play in order to help them."

While he's still waiting for that ever-elusive first offer, Buck said schools from all over have been in contact and one Big 12 school appears to be close to offering.

"I'd say that right now, Kansas State is the school closest to offering me right now," Buck said. "They keep telling me they want to get me down there and stuff like that. They haven't offered yet, but it could be on the way soon.

"Other then them, I have Auburn recruiting me pretty hard and Ole Miss, UAB and Oregon State and Wisconsin is sending me stuff and I filled out a form for them. That's about it right now."

While he's still waiting on his first offer, Buck said he's thought about what he's looking for in the school that he ultimately ends up at.

"I want a school with good academics," Buck said. "I also want to see how good they are at helping JC players make the transition.

"Distance really isn't a factor for me and, to be honest, I'm sorta looking forward to getting out of Illinois since I've spent practically my whole life here."

Buck is on pace to finish his AA in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
