Billionaire Businessman and radio talk show host John Catsimatidis and his wife Margo received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Green Beret Foundation for philanthropic work on behalf of the organization supporting U.S. Special Forces and their families.

Speaking at a special New York City Green Beret Foundation event last month, Catsimatidis expressed humility and honor upon receiving the award, calling attention to the unique heroism, devotion and sacrifices of Green Berets in combat.

The Greek-American billionaire businessman is a strong supporter of the non-profit Green Beret Foundation – an organization dedicated to supporting Special Forces sacrifices, helping returning members transition to civilian life, assisting those suffering combat-zone injuries and providing relief to families of Green Berets.

The Green Beret Foundation Tribute event was led by the organization’s Chairman of the Board, former Green Beret and Ret. Maj. Gen. David Morris.

“We are honored to have the support of such as great American who exemplifies the spirit of what makes this country the greatest in the world,” Morris said.

The San Antonio Headquartered Green Beret Foundation says its core mission is “to answer the call of Green Berets and their families -- so they can succeed in their next mission.” Our m

Catsimatidis remarks at the special event addressed the unique challenges known to often-deployed U.S. Special Forces units.

****Green Berets Have the Highest Per Capita Casualty Rate of Any Portion of the US Military; They are Required to Train & Equip Allied Forces and Know a Foreign Language. They are Teachers, Trainers & Fighters****

“Green Berets may deploy as many as 10-times (or more) throughout their career. There has been a lot of stress on them with the last 15 years of war. Green Berets don’t easily ask for help and do not easily identify themselves as having an issue, but it is OK to say you have a problem. The Green Beret Foundation understands the mindset of “America’s Quiet Professionals”, and because of this, we are in a good position to help identify needs and render assistance,” Morris said.

Catsimatidis is well known for his business and entrepreneurial successes as CEO of Gristedes Foods and the real-estate and aviation oriented Red Apple Group. However, alongside these large-scale business ventures, Catsimatidis is also widely recognized as a radio talk-show host on WNYM in New York City.

The radio show is known for including substantive and timely discussions with newsmakers and leaders such as Rudy Guliani and former New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. Catsimatidis, cited among Forbes Magazines’ 400 Billionaires, ran for May of New York City in 2013.

Green Berets, who are known to be among the first U.S. forces to respond to the September 11 terror attacks, have a special relationship with New York City.

A Statue entitled “America’s Response” sits permanently watching over the Ground Zero Memorial. Also known as De Oppresso Liber,(Free the Oppressed) this 16-foot bronze sculpture was commissioned to commemorate Operation Task Force Dagger, which was launched by Special Forces in October 2001.  These elite warriors, the Horse Soldiers, rode their horses through the mountains of Afghanistan, becoming known to the American people as the living embodiment of America’s Response: Spirit, Courage, Protector.
