MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 27

The Storm's offense has been on a roll and El Paso got a pair of big home runs from Tommy Medica and Kyle Blanks. The Missions broke their offensive draught but still lost while Fort Wayne wasted a pair of strong pitching performances.

Key Statistics:RF Jeff Francoeur 1-4, RBI, BB; 1B Tommy Medica 1-4, HR (1) 3 RBI; LF Kyle Blanks 1-3, HR (7), 2 RBI; RHP Billy Buckner (W, 1-0) 5.0 IP 4 H R ER BB 3 Ks; RHP Blaine Boyer (S, 1) 0.1 IP.

Prospect Watch: A pair of home runs by Tommy Medica and Kyle Blanks helped the Chihuahuas end their losing streak sending them home to their new stadium on a positive long as Medica and Blanks are both in El Paso it will be a potent middle of the order punch that El Paso has been missing...Pitcher Jason Lane, an outfielder in the majors for six seasons before attempting a return to the majors as a pitcher, was late inning defensive replacement in left field further enhancing his versatility. He is two for three this year as a pinch-hitter.

Prospect Watch: Rymer Liriano home run in the bottom of seventh ended the Missions' scoreless streak at 40 innings but for the first time the pitching wasn't there...Jesse Hahn is still being limited to three inning stretches as the organization is trying to build up his arm from limited action in the spring...With Jankowski out for a minimum of two months expect to see Liriano in center field more often...Despite hitting only .210 Liriano is leading the Missions in total bases with 30.

The downside is of course 38 strikeouts...Jensen, at a rangy six-foot-three could be a really interesting prospect. He is a six-foot-four SS/3B who has some pop in his bat and is a good athlete.

West Michigan Whitecaps 2 -TinCaps 1

Key Statistics 2B Fernando Perez 2-4, 2B, RBI; RHP Adrian De Horta (L, 0-1) 5.0 IP 4 H 2 R ER 2 BB K; RHP Tony Rizzotti 3.0 IP H.

Prospect Watch: Despite two strong pitching performances the TinCaps couldn't muster any offense...De Horta is only 19 and was an above-slot signee from the 2013 draft and is one of the many young players that the organization has in Fort Wayne that they believe can really develop...Rizzotti, another draftee from 2013 has good size at six-foot-four and has the potential to be an above average reliever. So far this year he has been inconsistent, but it was his second straight outing where he didn't allow any runs.
