The Los Angeles Angels have signed RHP, Geoff Broussard to a minor league contract. Broussard's Independent Ball club, Sioux City Explorers, of the American Association, announced the signing on February 20th.
Broussard, 24, was a 23rd round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012. While in the Phillies organization, Broussard pitched as far as the High-A level, posting a 3.22 ERA, 1.69 BB/9, 8.21 K/9, and 1.298 WHIP over his three years with the organization.
This past season, Broussard pitched with Sioux Falls, posting an 8-1 record, 3.26 ERA and 1.200 WHIP in the American Association. Broussard also pitched in the Mexican Winter League with Charros de Jallsco, allowing two hits and one walk, with a scoreless 6.2 innings pitched over five appearances.
Broussard comes equipped with a mid 90's fastball, with late movement. Broussard also has a plus curveball, and slider in his arsenal. Broussard commands all of his pitches well, and has nice deception due to hiding the ball, and a high leg kick in his smooth delivery.
Prior to being drafted, Broussard was named the 2012 Division II Pitcher of the Year, after holding an 11-1 record and 1.38 ERA his senior season at Cal Poly Pomona.
