Wednesday, the Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder, Kirk Nieuwenhuis from the New York Mets for cash considerations.

Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder, Kirk Nieuwenhuis from the New York Mets in exchance for cash considerations. The amount determined was not stated in the trade agreement.

Nieuwenhuis, 27, is under contract through the 2015 season. He currently has a career .230/.302/.374 slash in the Majors, with 13 home runs and 60 RBI in 226 games.

The Angels designated right-handed pitcher, Chad Smith, for assignment to make room for Nieuwenhuis on the 40-man roster.

The Angels are currently last in Major League Baseball in OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage), and have been looking to add a left-handed bat. Currently, they have Marc Krauss as a LHH/1B/OF/DH option, and he will likely be optioned to Triple-A when Nieuwenhuis joins the Angels without options.
