It was a rough month for the Travelers, who started hot, had a tough two week stretch, and finished stronger than they started. The Travs began the month going 5-2 in the first week, 4-10 in the next two, and 6-2 in the final week of the month. The Travs have kept pace with their division and the league, currently sitting second in standings, and have the third best record in the Texas League.


PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Sherman Johnson, Infielder

Johnson lead the Travs in batting average and slugging percntage in May, as well as finishing second on the team for the month in on-base percentage (.245/.339/.391). Johnson raised his batting average from .211 to .232, and picked up hits 22 in of 29 games, including 14 of his last 16. In those final 16 games, Johnson picked up 20 hits and seven extra-base hits.


PITCHER OF THE MONTH: Kyle McGowin, Right-Handed Starter

Despite a poor start to the season, McGowin was the Travs best pitcher in the month of May, posting a 2.94 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 3-1 record. McGowin had four of his six starts in May go as "quality starts," and did not allow an earned run in his final 13 innings of work in the month.
