Three Quakes make Cal League All-Star team

Three Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were named to the California League All-Star team for their June 27 matchup with the best of the Carolina League. It is the first time each player has made an in-season all-star team.

Jose Arredondo, 22, leads the Cal League with 92 strikeouts in just his second full season of pitching. He has just a 4-4 record despite being second in the league with a 1.99 ERA. He has surrendered just two homers in 68 innings of work this year.

Catcher Michael Collins has 67 hits to lead the Quakes and has been among league leaders in average most of the year until a recent slump. The 21-year-old Australian has a .299 average and 15 extra-base hits on the year.

Shortstop Sean Rodriguez, a third-round draft pick in 2003, has a team-high 10 home runs to support a .476 slugging percentage that also leads the Quakes. The right-handed hitter got off to a blistering start in April before cooling down a bit last month.

The Cal League has squared up with the Carolina League in 10 of the last 11 seasons, including the first matchup which was hosted by the Quakes in 1996. This season, the team will be managed by Lenn Sakata, who will have four of his own San Jose Giants players on the roster.
