San Antonio's Wladimir Balentien ultimately won the contest, defeating Joe Koshansky in the final round. Koshansky had the second-highest home run total in the minors last season, trailing only Wood.
In Davenport, Jordan Renz went into the finals of the Midwest League version of the contest, but took eight swings in the last tie-break round to put one over the fence. Quad Cities first baseman Randy Roth then beat him out with a shot on the fifth pitch.
Renz finished the first half of the Kernels' season leading with league-leading 14 homers in 210 at-bats.
