Quakes Tab McKearney as New General Manager

Gerard McKearney has been named the new general manager of the Quakes and North Johnson has stepped down to accept a job with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the team announced today. McKearney will officially take over the reins of the Quakes on September 7th.

"I'm extremely excited and I'm looking forward to this opportunity," McKearney said. "I'm very pleased to have the chance to build on what previous GMs North Johnson and Pat Filippone have done here in Rancho Cucamonga."

McKearney served as Quakes assistant general manager for two years in 1999 and 2000 under Filippone, and returns to Rancho Cucamonga following three seasons as Vice President of the Fresno Grizzlies. McKearney also has extensive experience as a general manager, having held that title with the Provo Angels in 2001 and the South Georgia Waves in 2002.

"Gerard's familiarity with the city of Rancho Cucamonga and his years of experience in baseball made him an obvious choice, and I'm thrilled that he accepted the job," Quakes CEO Henry Stickney said. "At the same time I'm sad to see North Johnson go, but I and the rest of the ownership group wish him nothing but success in Myrtle Beach."

Johnson spent three years with the Quakes but said the chance to become the GM in Myrtle Beach was simply too good to pass up.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed myself here in Rancho Cucamonga and want to sincerely thank all of our fans, sponsors and employees for making this experience so positive," Johnson said. "I wouldn't have left for just any job, but my family and I decided together that going to Myrtle Beach was the right choice. I have all the confidence in Gerry that he will continue to provide a first-class experience at the Epicenter."
