Conger heads to DL; Brandt promoted

The Angels have announced several roster moves within the system, including the placement of Hank Conger on the disabled list.

Left-hander Doug Brandt has been promoted to Rancho Cucamonga of the California League and catcher Hank Conger has been placed on the DL with back spasms.

In return, the Kernels have been assigned right-hander Amalio Diaz and catcher Scott Knazek.

Knazek was drafted in the 15th round by the Angels out of Rider College in New Jersey. He played in 64 games at Orem, batting .243 with 2 HR and 33 RBI.

Diaz was signed by the Angels as a non-drafted free agent in 2003 and played in seven games for the Kernels in 2006 with a 2-1 record and 5.18 ERA over 33 innings pitched. He was playing at double-A Arkansas and in six games, he had an 0-2 record and 4.58 ERA. In 37.1 innings he allowed 43 hits and 21 runs (19 earned) with seven walks and 15 strikeouts.

Brandt was selected to the MWL All-Star Game in Kane County. In 17 games, he posted a 3-2 record and 2.35 ERA. In 61.1 innings, he allowed 56 hits and 20 runs (16 earned) with 12 walks and 42 strikeouts.

Conger was also selected to the MWL All-Star Game, but did not play. In 61 games, he has a .281 BA with 8 HR and 33 RBI. Conger has 16 doubles and stolen 7 bases in 10 attempts.
