Angels welcome back old friends to Arkansas

The Los Angeles Angels have sent two players to round out the roster of the Arkansas Travelers at the start of a six-game home stand. Infielder/catcher Corey Myers and right-hander Von Stertzbach will join the Travs Wednesday night

Corey Myers comes to the Travs after spending the season with the Long Beach Armada of the independent Golden Baseball League.

Von Stertzbach, a member of the 2005 Travs, missed all of the 2006 season while recovering from arm surgery. He appeared in 14 games at Rancho Cucamonga this season and compiled a 1-0 record with three saves and a 9.22 ERA.

Myers, 27, spent the 2006 season playing for the Angels' triple-A Salt Lake affiliate. In 52 games he batted .263 with two home runs and 12 RBI while playing three infield positions and catcher.

Originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with a first round choice (4th overall) in the 1999 draft, Myers played seven seasons in the D-backs organization including the 2003 season in the Texas League as the everyday first baseman for the El Paso Diablos where he batted .290 with nine home runs and 60 RBI.

Stertzbach, 26, was drafted by the Angels with a ninth-round selected in the 2003 draft out of Central Florida. He appeared in 44 games for the 2005 Arkansas Travelers and finished with a 3-5 record, 10 saves and a 5.23 ERA.
