A's Release Two Minor Leaguers

The Oakland A's made two more in-season cuts this week. We have the details of who was let-go, and the corresponding roster moves, inside...

For the second time this month, the Oakland A's released a member of the Midland Rockhounds' pitching staff. Justin Murray, a right-hander, was let-go this week. Earlier this month, the A's released left-hander Lance Sewell. Murray has been replaced on the Midland roster by left-hander Polin Trinidad, who was signed as a minor league free agent after being let-go in early May by the Chicago Cubs.

Murray was 0-5 with a 6.49 ERA in seven starts for Midland. He had allowed 47 hits and 15 walks in 34.2 innings. Murray also allowed two runs in 2.2 innings in one appearance with High-A Stockton earlier this season.

Trinidad had a 5.06 ERA in 16 innings for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs at the time of his release this season. A former Houston Astros prospect, Trinidad was a starter up until his time in the Cubs' organization this season.

The A's also released right-hander Scott Hodsdon, who had been on the Stockton Ports' roster. Hodsdon was released a day after allowing four runs in the bottom of the 18th inning in the Ports' 10-9 loss to San Jose on Monday. In two outings with the Ports this season, Hodsdon had a 18.00 ERA with six earned runs allowed in 2.2 innings.

Hodsdon was replaced on the Ports' roster by right-hander Chris Mederos, who was promoted from Low-A Burlington. Mederos had been serving alongside Daniel Tenholder as the Bees' closer this season. In 13 outings, Mederos had a 0.93 ERA and a 25:4 K:BB ratio in 19.1 innings. The Georgia Southern alum had also saved five games for Burlington.

Replacing Mederos on the Bees' roster is left-hander Jeff Urlaub, who was activated from the disabled list.
