Events Scouted: Under Armour All-American

Physical Description
Woodruff is an extra large, physically mature righty. He's more physically advanced than most of his peers, but still has some room to gain some strength. He's naturally broad, but will still grow into that frame.

He's a two way player, but you'd think he focused all his attention on pitching. Woodruff is very clean and consistent mechanically, getting on top nicely and finishing through the target.

Given his size, the velocity seems to come relatively easy for Woodruff. He lives at 90-92 mph, and bumps 93 at times. It shows good arm side run when he's down in the zone. He spots it well and likes to attack early in counts with the heat. Once he gets stronger could sit consistently around 91-93 mph.

This where the most impressive part of Woodruff's game begins. His curveball shows big 11-5 depth and he works around 76-80 mph. His best hooks are closer to the 80 mph end of that range. He'll get swings and misses at the pro level with this offering not just because of the sharp action, but because of his good location as well. This is a 60 pitch in the making.

The changeup from Woodruff is nearly as good as his curveball. But, he uses it a bit less and doesn't have quite the feel. When he's getting it over his arm speed is good and the spin matches the fastball accurately. He sits at 80-82 mph with good fading action.

Summation Woodruff is also an accomplished hitter, but his home should absolutely be on the mound. He has a three pitch mix few young pitchers show, and all three have the upside of above average offerings.
