Get to know the entire Oakland A's 2012 MLB Draft class, from round 1 through round 40.

Round

%%MATCH_3%%
Height: 6-1
Weight: 195
Hometown: Pace, FL
Current Team: Pace HS, FL
Position: SS
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Addison Russell is the first high school player selected by the A's with their first overall pick since 2006, when the A's took Trevor Cahill in the second round (Oakland had no first round pick that season). Russell is the first top A's pick in the first round to come out of high school since Eric Chavez was taken 10th overall by the team in 1996. Like Chavez, Russell is a powerful hitter who can drive the ball out to all parts of the park. This year, he hit eight homeruns and posted an .815 SLG while getting on base at a .532 clip for Pace. He hit 11 homers as a sophomore and 10 as a junior.

Russell is also a strong defensive player. He has a strong arm and good hands. Many believed after his junior season that Russell was destined for a move to third base, but he dropped 20 pounds over the summer and, at 190 pounds, has a shot to remain at short. Scout.com's National Baseball Expert Frankie Piliere called Russell "one of the most complete players in this draft class" thanks to his offensive and defensive prowess.

Russell has a commitment to Auburn University and is represented by Scott Boras, although the A's are optimistic that they will be able to sign him.

Round
1A
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190
Hometown: Upland, CA
Current Team: Upland HS, CA
Position: SS
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Daniel Robertson was the second shortstop taken by the A's on Day 1 of the MLB draft. Like fellow HS shortstop and A's draftee Addison Russell, Robertson has above-average power for a shortstop. Unlike Russell, Robertson isn't expected to stay at short long-term, however. Most scouts see the California native sliding over to third base.

Although only 6'0'', Robertson is powerfully built. He has a natural feel for hitting and projects to hit for average at the next level. Robertson has a fast bat, according to Scout.com's National Baseball Expert Frankie Piliere. The Upland HS star hit .560 with a .696 OBP, six homers and a 1.000 SLG as a senior. He also showed off his arm strength as a relief pitcher for his high school team, recording four saves in four opportunities.

Robertson has a commitment to UCLA.

Round

Oakland Athletics
Player: Matt Olson
Height: 6-4
Weight: 225
Hometown: Lilburn, GA
Current Team: Parkview HS, GA
Position: 1B
Bats: L
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: With their third pick on day one, the A's took another power bat – first baseman Matt Olson. The Georgia native has a prototypical first baseman's build at 6'4'', 235. Olson was a two-way player for Parkview, starring as a right-handed pitcher as well as a hitter. He led his team to a Class AAAAA championship and hit .386 with 42 RBIs. He also had an 11-0 record and 1.23 ERA with 70 strike-outs in 68 innings. Although he had success as a pitcher, his future as a pro is as a hitter.

Olson gets good lift on his swing and projects to add even more power as he grows into his frame and matures as a hitter. He is an average runner and a decent athlete with good hands, but he is likely limited to first base defensively despite his strong arm.

An A-student, Olson is committed to Vanderbilt University.

Round
2
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-2
Weight: 230
Hometown: Toney, AL
Current Team: Birmingham Southern

Position: C
Bats: L
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Bruce Maxwell wasn't a big name on pre-draft boards, but the Division III and Rawlings Player of the Year has eye-popping numbers. During his junior year at Birmingham Southern, Maxwell walked 59 times and struck-out only 11 times in 47 games. He also connected on 15 homeruns.

Maxwell has a huge frame, but he has a chance to stay behind the plate. He has a strong arm and good athleticism for a player of his size. He has also seen time at first base in his career.

Round
2
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190
Hometown: Kokomo, IN
Current Team: Arkansas
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Nolan Sanburn is a hard-throwing right-hander who has pitched well in two seasons with the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Indiana native is regularly clocked in the mid-90s and has touched 97 with his fastball. He also features a hard breaking ball.

Sanburn has been a reliever for his college career and that is likely where he will land in the pros, although the A's could try him as a starter first. He struck-out more than a batter an inning in the SEC and batters hit only .194 against him this year. He didn't pitch much in high school, but he could still move quickly through the minor leagues if he is in a relief role.

Sanburn is a draft-eligible sophomore.

Round
3
Oakland Athletics
Player: Kyle Twomey
Height: 6-3
Weight: 180
Hometown: Placentia, CA
Current Team: El Dorado HS
Position: P
Bats: L
Throws: L
ANALYSIS: Some tabbed Kyle Twomey as a top-two round pick, but the A's have grabbed him in round three. A strong-armed left-hander from Southern California, Twomey has deep pitching repertoire. He has two fastballs (two-seam and four-seam), a curveball and a change-up. At 6'3'', he has starter's height and his size suggests he has some room to add velocity to his 90 MPH fastball. He has a good feel for pitching but is still refining his offerings.

Twomey has a strong commitment to USC that the A's will have to buy him out of.

Round
4
Oakland Athletics
Player: B.J. Boyd
Height: 6-10
Weight: 205
Hometown: Palo Alto, CA
Current Team: Palo Alto HS
Position: CF
Bats: L
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: The A's go local for the first time in this draft with their fourth round selection. Boyd starred for Palo Alto High School both as a baseball and as a football player. A standout athlete, Boyd has plus speed and the build to add power as he develops his game. Boyd was named the CCS Male Baseball Player of the Year for 2012. He was a key member of the Palo Alto HS CCS Division Championship baseball team in 2011. Boyd is a good baserunner and he has a solid swing that should allow him to hit for average.

Although he had an impressive career on the gridiron as a running back, Boyd has seemingly indicated his desire to play baseball instead, not committing to a school for football.

Round
5
Oakland Athletics
Player: Max Muncy
Height: 6-1
Weight: 205
Hometown: Keller, TX
Current Team: Baylor
Position: 1B
Bats: L
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Max Muncy fits the mold of a ‘typical' A's draft pick. He is a polished collegiate bat with a solid approach at the plate (he walked more than he struck-out this year for Baylor). A good athlete, Muncy doesn't have the typical height for a first baseman, and the A's could try him elsewhere on the diamond.

Some scouts have questioned how much power he will hit for as a pro, although most believe he will hit for average and get on-base. Scout.com's National Baseball Expert Frankie Piliere likes Muncy's chances of hitting for power at the next level.

Round
6
Oakland Athletics
Player: Seth Streich
Height: 6-3
Weight: 200
Hometown: Ridgeway, PA
Current Team: Ohio
Position: P
Bats: L
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: An infielder and pitcher at Ohio, Streich was drafted for his talents on the mound. The right-handed pitcher has battled command issues, but he has a lot of arm strength. Streich posted a 4.42 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) for the Bobcats this year. He tossed three complete games and struck-out 62 in 75.1 innings, but he also walked 36.

Streich's fastball has been clocked at 95 MPH and he features a hard breaking ball. He could be a future reliever although his collegiate background is as a starter.

Round
7
Oakland Athletics
Player: Cody Kurz
Height: 0-0
Weight: 0
Hometown: Ventura, CA
Current Team: Oxnard
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Cody Kurz is the first junior college prospect tabbed by the A's in this draft. A right-handed pitcher, Kurz has an unusual background. He was a highly recruited athlete coming out of high school, but not as a baseball player. He was a top defensive lineman at St. Bonaventure HS and received interest from big programs such as LSU, Colorado and others. He ultimately decided baseball was his path and went to Oxnard, a successful Southern California JC program.

With Oxnard, Kurz served as the team's closer and he had seven saves for the Condors this year. He posted a 1.46 ERA and struck-out 21 in 24.2 innings. Kurz did walk 11, but batters hit only .174 against him. Given his time on the football field, he will be a project pitcher for the A's.

Round
8
Oakland Athletics
Player: Kris Hall
Height: 6-3
Weight: 215
Hometown: Strongville, OH
Current Team: Lee University
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Kris Hall, the A's 8th round pick, is yet another hard thrower who also features a plus breaking ball. Hall, who has been clocked as high as 96 MPH, actually features two hard breaking balls – a hard slider and a hard curveball, although the slider is his main breaking ball. He struck-out 122 batters in 100 innings for Lee as a starter this season. It was his first season as a starter after spending last year as a closer.

At 6'3'', 210, Hall has starter size and a highly competitive nature. Where he lands in the pros will likely hinge on whether he can refine his change-up.

Round
9
Oakland Athletics
Player: Dakota Bacus
Height: 6-2
Weight: 205
Hometown: Moline, IL
Current Team: Indiana State
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Dakota Bacus had a standout season in his first season with Indiana State. The junior college transfer was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year. He also earned all-conference honors. The right-hander had a 2.37 ERA and 89 strike-outs in 114 innings.

Bacus has a starter's build and three solid offerings – a low-90s fastball, a slider and a change-up. He commands all three pitches well and does a good job keeping the ball in the ballpark.

Round
10
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-9
Weight: 175
Hometown: Buena Park, CA
Current Team: UCSB
Position: OF
Bats: L
Throws: L
ANALYSIS: Brett Vertigan is a speedster who was an igniter at the top of the UCSB line-up this season. A junior college transfer, Vertigan set the team record for triples in his only season playing for the Gauchos. He hit .381 with a .454 OBP. Vertigan doesn't have much power, but he is a plus runner. Vertigan wasn't that efficient in stealing bases this year, however (17 stolen bases in 24 chances), something he will need to improve in the pros. He is a strong defender in centerfield and has the speed to stay at the position.

Round
11
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-11
Weight: 185
Hometown: Acworth, GA
Current Team: Harrison HS, GA
Position: SS
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Matt Gonzalez hails from the baseball hotbed in Georgia. Gonzalez was both a pitcher and shortstop in high school. He set his school records for doubles and saves this year. Harrison has a strong arm and flashed potential with the bat in 2012. He has received high marks for his competitive nature both as a position player and as a pitcher.

Gonzalez is believed to have a strong commitment to attend Georgia Tech.

Round
12
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-3
Weight: 210
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Position: 3B
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Johnny Caputo is the first Canadian player drafted by the A's this season. The outfielder spent the spring training at the IMG Baseball Academy in Florida as a post-graduate player. A member of the Canadian Junior National team, Caputo has a commitment to play at Stony Brook University in New York next season. He was a two-time MVP at Crescent High School.

Caputo is a good athlete with a frame that should allow him to add muscle as he develops. A two-way player in high school, Caputo reached the mid-80s with his fastball and he has plenty of arm for third base. Caputo projects to stay at third at the next level. He is short to the ball with his swing and generates a number of line-drives. Although he is only 18, Caputo has two years of international baseball experience with the Canadian Junior National team and has played well on big stages in his young career.

Round
13
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-5
Weight: 220
Hometown: Blue Springs, MO
Current Team: Dallas Baptist
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Stuart Pudenz was the closer for the talented Dallas Baptist squad this season. In 22 appearances, the Missouri native had a 1.58 ERA in 40 innings. He struck-out 50 and earned a team-high eight saves. Pudenz also had five wins.

Pudenz has a big frame at 6'5'', 220 pounds and the velocity one would expect of a pitcher his size. He generally sits in the 92-95 MPH range. He also features a split-fingered fastball and a hard breaking ball. As a polished collegiate reliever, Pudenz could move quickly through the minor leagues.

Round
14
Oakland Athletics
Player: Austin House
Height: 6-5
Weight: 210
Hometown: Albuquerque, NM
Current Team: New Mexico
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Austin House was the Lobos top starter this past season. He posted a 2.74 ERA in 111.2 innings with 91 strike-outs in 16 starts. House had three complete games and allowed only two homeruns. Like most of the A's first day pitcher selections, House has the ideal right-handed pitcher frame, standing well over six-feet tall (6'4'').

Another hard-thrower, House was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox out of high school in 2009 in the 25th round. He is a three-pitch pitcher with a low-to-mid 90s fastball, change-up and hard slider. House has been durable throughout his career and figures to get a chance to start as a professional.

Round
15
Oakland Athletics
Player: Vince Voiro
Height: 6-4
Weight: 200
Hometown: Cherry Hill, NJ
Current Team: Penn
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Vince Voiro led the Quakers staff in 2012, striking out 59 and walking only 14 in 66 innings and posting a 2.45 ERA. The tall and lanky right-hander was Honorable Mention All-Ivy League and a two-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Week. Voiro threw five complete games, including one shutout.

Voiro has good velocity on his fastball, sitting in the 90-93 MPH range and occasionally touching 95. He also features a split-fingered fastball and a slider, both of which generate a lot of swings-and-misses. A college senior, Voiro should sign quickly. He passed up the opportunity to turn pro after his junior season, when he was selected in the 47th round by San Diego.

Round
16
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-8
Weight: 170
Hometown: Bronx, NY
Current Team: Central Florida JC
Position: SS
Bats: B
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Melvin Mercedes is a switch-hitting junior college shortstop. Offensively, his speed is his biggest weapon. At 5'8'', 170 pounds, he isn't likely to develop much power, but he has lead-off hitter skills. In his freshman season at Central Florida, he hit .321 with seven doubles and three triples in 56 games. He also stole 14 bases and walked 34 times for a team-best .451 OBP. Defensively, he covers a lot of ground at shortstop and is athletic. A two-way player in high school, Mercedes also has good arm strength.

Mercedes hasn't committed to a four-year college for 2013, so he is a decent bet to sign.

Round
17
Oakland Athletics
Player: Tyler Olson
Height: 6-3
Weight: 190
Hometown: Spokane, WA
Current Team: Gonzaga
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: L
ANALYSIS: Tyler Olson is the second left-handed pitcher taken by Oakland in the draft. The senior has been a weekend starter for the Zags the past two seasons. This year, he posted a 2.77 ERA and struck-out 90 in 110.1 innings. Olson isn't a particularly hard thrower (he tops out at around 89 MPH), but he gets a lot of movement on his fastball, making it his most effective pitch. He also has a solid slider, a big curveball and a change-up. Olson was the leader of the Gonzaga staff and should adjust to the lower levels of professional baseball with no problems.

Olson has been effective as a starter, but he had a few high pitch-count games and threw more than 110 innings, so the A's may keep him in the bullpen this season to limit any wear-and-tear on his arm.

Round
18
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-0
Weight: 170
Hometown: Plainfield, IL
Current Team: Oakton CC
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Derek De Young is a diminutive right-hander, but he comes armed with a solid fastball that has been clocked at 94 MPH. De Young used that good fastball to strike-out 104 batters in only 75.2 innings this season. He posted a 2.85 ERA. De Young can be wild at times, however, as he walked 47. De Young also features a tight slider and a change-up. With his frame, De Young is more likely to be a reliever at the next level than a starter.

De Young has a commitment to play for Division II Lynn University next fall.

Round
19
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-0
Weight: 180
Hometown: Yabucoa, PR
Position: OF
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Robert Martinez is the first Puerto Rican player selected by the A's in the draft. The high school outfielder has a projectable frame and good present tools. Martinez has a short, smooth swing and good speed. His frame should allow for adding more strength as he matures, which could both add power and move him out of centerfield. Martinez has a strong throwing arm, so right field could be his eventual home.

Round
20
Oakland Athletics
Player: Boog Powell
Height: 6-10
Weight: 170
Hometown: Mission Viejo, CA
Current Team: Orange Coast College
Position: OF
Bats: L
Throws: L
ANALYSIS: Herschel "Boog" Powell hit .398 for Orange Coast junior college in 2012. The centerfielder didn't hit for much power, but he has above-average speed and finished among the top-10 in his conference in on-base percentage. Powell is a contact hitter and he rarely strikes out, and he says he admires Brett Gardner's style of play. He is eager to start his professional career, but he still has one year of junior college eligibility remaining should he decide not to sign with the A's.

Round
21
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-2
Weight: 175
Hometown: West Chester, OH
Current Team: UNC-Greensboro
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Tyler Hollstegge is the latest player from UNC-G to be drafted by the A's. Other former UNC-G draft picks by Oakland include Jermaine Mitchell, Pat Currin, Rob Gilliam and Blake Hassebrock. Hollstegge comes from a baseball family, as his father and brother both played collegiately. Hollstegge split his time between the rotation and the bullpen this season, posting a 3.75 ERA. His K:BB ratio was mediocre (37:26), but he allowed only four homeruns in 60 innings. Hollstegge has a solid fastball that sits in the low-90s and he showed the ability to maintain his velocity late into games this season. He also features a good slider that sits around 80 MPH.

Round
22
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-2
Weight: 195
Hometown: Bowie, MD
Current Team: Radford
Position: OF
Bats: L
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Matt Hillsinger leaves Radford University as one of the school's most prolific offensive players. He finished in the school's historical top-10 in 12 different offensive categories. Hillsinger missed some time with a knee injury in 2012, but he still managed to post career-highs in homeruns (eight) and RBIs. Hillsinger is a decent runner but played mostly left field for the Highlanders. Despite playing a corner, Hillsinger is considered an above-average defender. He is also a smart base-runner and he utilizes his speed well. As a college senior, he should sign quickly.

Round
23
Oakland Athletics
Player: Tucker Healy
Height: 6-2
Weight: 210
Hometown: Needham, MA
Current Team: Ithaca College
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Tucker Healy is another college senior selection. The right-handed pitcher served mostly as a reliever for Ithaca during his career. He saved five games in 2012, a career-high, and posted a 3.48 ERA. He has been a strike-out pitcher throughout his career, striking out 147 in 97.1 innings. In 2012, he struck-out 50 in 31 innings. Healy is a hard thrower and should continue as a reliever in the pros.

Round
24
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-1
Weight: 205
Hometown: Tucson, AZ
Current Team: Kansas State
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Kayvon Bahramzadeh is a senior from Kansas State. The Arizona native was selected in the 47th round of the draft in 2008 by the Diamondbacks when he was coming out of high school. Bahramzadeh is the third pitcher taken by the A's out of K-State in recent years (Ben Hornbeck and Justin Murray were the others). He was primarily a starter for the Wildcats the past two seasons. In 2012, he had a 4.74 ERA with 79 strike-outs in 79.2 innings pitched. Bahramzadeh gets good, cutting movement on his fastball and he also has two breaking balls. He should sign quickly.

Round
25
Oakland Athletics
Player: Derek Hansen
Height: 6-2
Weight: 200
Hometown: Fergus Falls, MN
Current Team: Augustana (SD)
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: For a second consecutive year, the A's have traveled to the state of South Dakota to select a right-handed pitcher. Last year, it was Blake Treinen. This year it is Derek Hansen. Hansen was a two-way player at Augustana College, but he was announced as a pitcher. The well-built right-hander was a corner infielder or DH when he wasn't on the mound. He is a career .342 hitter, but it is his arm that intrigued the A's the most. During his junior season, he struck-out 103 batters in only 67.2 innings while posting a 1.60 ERA. This year was a break-out season for Hansen on the mound, as he had never posted an ERA below 4.70 in his previous two campaigns. Hansen didn't pitch much in high school, so he is still relatively raw and his arm hasn't gotten that much mileage on it yet. His fastball sits in the high-80s and his out-pitch is a swing-and-miss slider. Hansen is an above-average athlete and he could add a few more ticks to his fastball with continued refinement of his mechanics.

Round
26
Oakland Athletics
Player: Lee Sosa
Height: 6-2
Weight: 200
Hometown: Bronx, NY
Current Team: SUNY-Binghamton
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Lee Sosa is the second native of the Bronx to be taken by the A's in this draft and the second Bearcat to be selected by Oakland in recent years (Murphy Smith in 2009 was the other). The tall right-hander is a hard-thrower, with a fastball that has been clocked in the mid-90s. Sosa made 18 relief appearances this season and totaled 18 innings of work. As the closer at Binghamton, Sosa saved 10 games and posted a 2.60 ERA. He had 18 strike-outs. He could be pitching close to home once he signs with the A's in the New York-Penn League for Vermont.

Round
27
Oakland Athletics
Player: Ryan Mathews
Height: 6-3
Weight: 185
Hometown: Orlando, FL
Current Team: NC State
Position: OF
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Ryan Mathews was the top slugger on the Wolfpack this season, as the outfielder clubbed a team-best 17 homers. It was a break-out season for Mathews, who appeared in only 18 games the previous season. The redshirt senior had a long journey to get to NC State. He signed with Florida out of high school but wound-up at Western Carolina after the Gators changed coaches. Mathews then transferred to a junior college before attending NC State. An appendectomy cost him most of the 2010 season and he didn't receive much playing time in 2011.

Mathews is old for a draft prospect at 22 years old (he will turn 23 in August), but he has a skill that the A's need in their system – power. Once NC State concludes its post-season run, Mathews should sign with the A's quickly.

Round
28
Oakland Athletics
Player: Phil Pohl
Height: 6-11
Weight: 215
Hometown: Cooperstown, NY
Current Team: Clemson
Position: C
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Phil Pohl was announced as a catcher, but he spent time at first base, in the outfield and at DH in addition to behind the plate for the Tigers. Pohl's bat is his strength. The senior co-captain hit .286 with nine homers and a team-high 58 RBIs in 2012. He has good power to all fields and is a battler at the plate. He doesn't walk a lot and has below-average speed.

Round
29
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190
Hometown: Weatherford, TX
Current Team: Dallas Baptist
Position: P
Bats: L
Throws: L
ANALYSIS: Taylor Massey is the second member of the Dallas Baptist pitching staff to be selected by the A's in the draft. The southpaw posted a 3.10 ERA and earned a team-best nine wins. He struck-out 76 in 87 innings and had two complete games (including one shutout). Massey has a solid change-up and is a groundball pitcher. The son of a coach, Massey has a good feel for pitching. The senior should sign quickly.

Round
30
Oakland Athletics
Player: Chris Wolfe
Height: 6-11
Weight: 150
Hometown: Houston, TX
Current Team: Grambling State
Position: SS
Bats: B
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Chris Wolfe was a dynamic force at the top of the Grambling State line-up in 2012. The switch-hitting shortstop hit .321 with 49 walks in 48 games this season. He had a .473 OBP and he swiped 29 bases in 33 chances. Wolfe got high marks for his leadership skills at Grambling.

Round
31
Oakland Athletics
Player: Ryan Gorton
Height: 6-2
Weight: 215
Hometown: Tigard, OR
Current Team: Oregon State
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Three years after drafting Ryan Ortiz, the A's took another catcher from Oregon State: Ryan Gorton. Gorton was a two-way player for the Beavers, catching and pitching. At the plate, Gorton hit .281 in 61 games during his collegiate career. He also appeared in 46 games as a pitcher. Gorton was on the list for the Tino Martinez award for top two-way player. Gorton was never an everyday player for the Beavers during his three-year career, but he showed enough to scouts to suggest that he could catch at the pro level. As a hitter, Gorton showed little power (only four extra-base hits in 119 at-bats), but he got on-base regularly thanks to a .303 average and a .420 OBP.

Round
32
Oakland Athletics
Player: Ryan Dull
Height: 6-11
Weight: 175
Hometown: Winston-Salem, NC
Current Team: UNC-Asheville
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Ryan Dull anchored the UNC-Asheville staff this season. He struck-out 84 in 83.2 innings while posting a 3.55 ERA. Dull showed good command, walking only 13 and allowing only five homeruns. The senior has an effective hard curveball. Dull is a diminutive right-hander and is likely to be a reliever as a pro. His competitive nature should play well in the bullpen.

Round
33
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-0
Weight: 180
Hometown: Chatsworth, CA
Current Team: Stony Brook
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Tyler Johnson is the ace of a Stony Brook team that is pushing for a spot in Omaha this week. The wiry right-hander was a third-team All-American this year. He went 11-1 with a 2.13 ERA and two shutouts. He isn't a strike-out pitcher, having whiffed only 47 batters in 88.2 innings, but he has good command. Johnson also pitched well in the Cape Cod League last summer, making that league's All-Star team. He has thrown a lot of pitches in the Seawolves post-season run and the A's will likely be careful with him once he signs.

Round
34
Oakland Athletics
Height: 6-1
Weight: 180
Hometown: Modesto, CA
Current Team: Thomas Downey HS, CA
Position: SS
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Devon Gradford is one of those rare players who has been able to make the move from second base to shortstop, a move he made during his senior year at Downey HS. He had a break-out season as a senior, batting .430 a year after he hit only .294. Gradford also walked more than he struck-out this season. He is still adjusting to the longer throws and different angles from shortstop and is a work-in-progress on defense. He will choose between going to junior college and turning pro.

ANALYSIS: Connor Williams is a hard-throwing right-hander from Utah. His fastball has been clocked as high as 93 MPH. Williams has a tall frame that has room to fill out. He was also an outfielder in high school, but the A's announced him as a pitcher. As a position player, his speed was his best tool. Williams has a commitment to Utah, where he was recruited to be an outfielder, primarily.

ANALYSIS: John Wooten was the best hitter on his Pirates' squad this year. The first baseman hit .338 with nine homeruns and a .392 OBP. A good athlete, he isn't limited to first base and profiles similarly to A's prospect Josh Whitaker. Wooten had a solid season in the Cape Cod League last summer, as well. Given his success in 2012, he could head back to East Carolina for his senior season to try to improve his draft stock in 2013.

ANALYSIS: After having dipped into the San Diego rotation in the 2010 draft with the selections of A.J. Griffin and Matt Thomson, the A's took another Toreros righty, Calvin Drummond, at this spot. A redshirt junior, Drummond was a weekend starter for San Diego this year, winning eight games and posting a 3.43 ERA in 86.2 innings. He struck-out 80. Drummond was selected in the 34th round last season by the Washington Nationals, but he elected to return to school. He features a low-90s fastball and a cut fastball, as well as a curveball and a change-up. Drummond technically has one more year of eligibility at USD, but given his age, he seems likely to turn pro this season.

ANALYSIS: Dalton Blaser is a Northern California product, hailing from Roseville. Blaser hit .485 for Roseville this season. He has played all three outfield positions, but is more of a corner outfield/first baseman type. Blaser has a strong arm that should allow him to play right field. He was also a pitcher for Roseville and had a 2.27 ERA. At the plate, he shows signs of developing into a power hitter down-the-road and he is already a reliable run producer.

ANALYSIS: David Olmedo-Barrera is a contact hitter, having struck-out only five times in 78 at-bats as a high school senior. He batted .410 and collected five doubles and two triples. Olmedo-Barrera is a versatile defensive player, having seen time at short, second, third and in the outfield. He is commitment to play next fall with baseball powerhouse Cal State Fullerton and would appear to be a longshot to sign with the A's.

Height: 6-1

\r\nRussell is also a strong defensive player. He has a strong arm and good hands. Many believed after his junior season that Russell was destined for a move to third base, but he dropped 20 pounds over the summer and, at 190 pounds, has a shot to remain at short. Scout.com's National Baseball Expert Frankie Piliere called Russell \"one of the most complete players in this draft class\" thanks to his offensive and defensive prowess.

\r\nRussell has a commitment to Auburn University and is represented by Scott Boras, although the A's are optimistic that they will be able to sign him.

\r\n\r\nAlthough only 6'0'', Robertson is powerfully built.

\r\n\r\nRobertson has a commitment to UCLA.

\r\n\r\nOlson gets good lift on his swing and projects to add even more power as he grows into his frame and matures as a hitter. He is an average runner and a decent athlete with good hands, but he is likely limited to first base defensively despite his strong arm.

An A-student, Olson is committed to Vanderbilt University.

\r\n\r\nMaxwell has a huge frame, but he has a chance to stay behind the plate. He has a strong arm and good athleticism for a player of his size. He has also seen time at first base in his career.

ANALYSIS: Nolan Sanburn is a hard-throwing right-hander who has pitched well in two seasons with the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Indiana native is regularly clocked in the mid-90s and has touched 97 with his fastball. He also features a hard breaking ball.

\r\n\r\nSanburn has been a reliever for his college career and that is likely where he will land in the pros, although the A's could try him as a starter first. He struck-out more than a batter an inning in the SEC and batters hit only .194 against him this year. He didn't pitch much in high school, but he could still move quickly through the minor leagues if he is in a relief role.

\r\n\r\nTwomey has a strong commitment to USC that the A's will have to buy him out of.\r\n

\r\n\r\nAlthough he had an impressive career on the gridiron as a running back, Boyd has seemingly indicated his desire to play baseball instead, not committing to a school for football.

\r\n\r\nSome scouts have questioned how much power he will hit for as a pro, although most believe he will hit for average and get on-base. Scout.com's National Baseball Expert Frankie Piliere likes Muncy's chances of hitting for power at the next level.

\r\nStreich's fastball has been clocked at 95 MPH and he features a hard breaking ball. He could be a future reliever although his collegiate background is as a starter.

\r\n\r\nWith Oxnard, Kurz served as the team's closer and he had seven saves for the Condors this year. He posted a 1.46 ERA and struck-out 21 in 24.2 innings. Kurz did walk 11, but batters hit only .174 against him. Given his time on the football field, he will be a project pitcher for the A's.

\r\n\r\nAt 6'3'', 210, Hall has starter size and a highly competitive nature. Where he lands in the pros will likely hinge on whether he can refine his change-up.

\r\n\r\nBacus has a starter's build and three solid offerings – a low-90s fastball, a slider and a change-up. He commands all three pitches well and does a good job keeping the ball in the ballpark.

\r\n\r\nCaputo is a good athlete with a frame that should allow him to add muscle as he develops.

\r\n\r\nPudenz has a big frame at 6'5'', 220 pounds and the velocity one would expect of a pitcher his size. He generally sits in the 92-95 MPH range.

\r\n\r\nAnother hard-thrower, House was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox out of high school in 2009 in the 25th round. He is a three-pitch pitcher with a low-to-mid 90s fastball, change-up and hard slider. House has been durable throughout his career and figures to get a chance to start as a professional.\r\n

\r\n\r\nVoiro has good velocity on his fastball, sitting in the 90-93 MPH range and occasionally touching 95. He also features a split-fingered fastball and a slider, both of which generate a lot of swings-and-misses. A college senior, Voiro should sign quickly.

\r\n\r\nMercedes hasn't committed to a four-year college for 2013, so he is a decent bet to sign. \r\n

\r\n\r\nOlson has been effective as a starter, but he had a few high pitch-count games and threw more than 110 innings, so the A's may keep him in the bullpen this season to limit any wear-and-tear on his arm.\r\n

Powell is a contact hitter and he rarely strikes out, and he says he admires Brett Gardner's style of play. \r\n

Player: Tucker Healy
Height: 6-2

Hometown: Needham, MA
Current Team: Ithaca College
Position: P
Bats: R
Throws: R
ANALYSIS: Tucker Healy is another college senior selection. The right-handed pitcher served mostly as a reliever for Ithaca during his career. He saved five games in 2012, a career-high, and posted a 3.48 ERA. He has been a strike-out pitcher throughout his career, striking out 147 in 97.1 innings. In 2012, he struck-out 50 in 31 innings. Healy is a hard thrower and should continue as a reliever in the pros.\r\n

[MEDTHUMBNAIL:1073905]
Height: 6-1

Hometown: Tucson, AZ

Position: P

He should sign quickly.\r\n

\r\n\r\nMathews is old for a draft prospect at 22 years old (he will turn 23 in August), but he has a skill that the A's need in their system – power. Once NC State concludes its post-season run, Mathews should sign with the A's quickly. \r\n

He doesn't walk a lot and has below-average speed.\r\n

The senior should sign quickly.\r\n

ANALYSIS: Chris Wolfe was a dynamic force at the top of the Grambling State line-up in 2012. The switch-hitting shortstop hit .321 with 49 walks in 48 games this season. He had a .473 OBP and he swiped 29 bases in 33 chances. Wolfe got high marks for his leadership skills at Grambling.\r\n

Player: Ryan Gorton

His competitive nature should play well in the bullpen.\r\n

He has thrown a lot of pitches in the Seawolves post-season run and the A's will likely be careful with him once he signs.\r\n

He will choose between going to junior college and turning pro.\r\n

Williams has a commitment to Utah, where he was recruited to be an outfielder, primarily.\r\n

Given his success in 2012, he could head back to East Carolina for his senior season to try to improve his draft stock in 2013.\r\n

Drummond technically has one more year of eligibility at USD, but given his age, he seems likely to turn pro this season.\r\n
