A's Draft Day Memories

For many Major League baseball players, the first step in their journeys to the "Show" came on draft day. Chris Biderman caught-up with some of the current members of the Oakland A's to find out their memories of draft day.

Kurt Suzuki, C | Selected in the second round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Oakland A's

Suzuki's Memory Of Draft Day: "I was in college, at the field getting ready for our super regional games and practicing. I was listening on the computer and someone told me."

"I got a call from one of the scouts and they told me ‘Hey, we're going to take you with our 67th pick.' I was really excited. I was pumped and just grateful to get the opportunity."

Jemile Weeks, 2B | Selected in the first round (12th overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Oakland A's

Weeks' Memory Of Draft Day: "I was with my family. I was down in Miami, and we just sat around the TV and waited to see where I was going to go. And the A's called me, and I just felt a big release and pressure just dropped off me. Excitement was running through my mind and hugs from the family and everything. It was the best feeling in the world."

"It's been a wonderful ride and we're still riding."

Jonny Gomes, OF | Selected in the 18th round of the 2001 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays

Gomes' Memory Of Draft Day: "Actually I wasn't even in the country at the time. I was on vacation (in Jamaica). It was a pre-scheduled vacation because I had no idea when the draft was or any idea I was even getting drafted."

"So I didn't find out until a day and a half later and I was obviously pumped. But I didn't have that on the radar so I didn't even know what to do."

Seth Smith, OF | Selected by the Colorado Rockies in the second round of the 2004 draft

Smith's Draft Day Memory: "I was excited obviously. It was kind of open-ended for me where I was going to go. It was a huge a range where I could go, so I had no idea. When I got the call at a respectable spot, I was pretty excited. To get drafted by the Rockies, it was a great place to hit as everybody knows, so it was a great day."

"I didn't have any expectations. I've just kind of gone one day at a time and where I am today, it's been very satisfying."

Brandon Moss, OF/1B | Selected by the Boston Red Sox in the Eighth Round of the 2002 draft

Moss' Draft Day Memory: "I was surprised I went as a position player. I thought I was going to go as a pitcher."

"I was at a buddy of mine's house playing Ken Griffey Junior Baseball."
