Athletics sign Healy and Finnegan

The Oakland A's announced they have come to terms with third-round draft selection Ryon Healy and sixth rounder Kyle Finnegan Monday.

The A's continue to make progress in signing 2013's draft class, and have inked 29 of their 42 selections - including 12 of their first 15 players taken.

Healy, a 6'5" first baseman from the University of Oregon slugged .566 thanks to 11 homers in 59 games during his junior season with the Ducks. He almost cut his strikeouts in half from his sophomore campaign and walked more than he struck out.

The Encino, Calif. native played the majority of his collegiate career at third base before moving across the diamond to first. The A's will likely give him a chance at both positions.

Finnegan, a hard-throwing right-hander out of Texas State, might project as a reliever in the long term even after the majority of his college appearances came in a starting capacity.

Armed with a fastball that's been clocked as high as 97, Finnegan still has work to do on his secondary offerings. Coming in as a reliever could ease his transition to the pros by putting less on his plate.
