Snappers Season Comes To An End

A memorable 2013 season for the Beloit Snappers came to an end on Monday night, as the Snappers fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits in the decisive Game Three of the Midwest League's Western Division finals.

The Beloit Snappers found themselves down early to the Quad Cities River Bandits and a late rally wasn't enough, as Beloit fell by a score of 9-5. The loss ended the Snappers' 2013 season. Beloit won 80 games in its first season as the Oakland A's Low-A affiliate.

Quad Cities put on a power display, connecting on three homers in the first three innings of the game. Beloit was down 9-2 in the sixth inning. The Snappers scored three runs in the eighth inning but couldn't draw any closer.

Aaron Shipman and Brett Vertigan paced the Beloit offense with three hits a piece. Sam Roberts hit a homerun, his first of the post-season.

Derek DeYoung took the loss. He allowed five runs on six hits in two-plus innings. Trevor Bayless and Vince Voiro each allowed two runs in two innings of work before Sam Bragg tossed three scoreless innings to keep the Snappers close.

The Beloit loss officially ends the Oakland A's 2013 minor league season. The next step on the player development scheduled for the A's will be fall Instructs, followed by the Arizona Fall League.
