A-Stars: Several A's Prospects Honored

The California League and the Midwest League announced their rosters for their mid-season classics on Wednesday. Six A-ball prospects from the Oakland A's organization are on those lists.

The Oakland A's organization will be well represented at both the California League-Carolina League All-Star game and the Midwest League All-Star game. Stockton Ports' catcher Bruce Maxwell and starting pitcher Seth Streich are on the roster for the Cal League in this year's High-A showdown, while outfielder Boog Powell, infielder Luis Baez and pitchers Kyle Finnegan and Andres Avila will represent the Beloit Snappers in the Midwest League's All-Star game.

Maxwell will be the Cal League's starting catcher. The A's 2012 second-round pick is off to a solid start this season. He is batting .282/.365/.392 in 181 at-bats. Maxwell has also thrown out 43% of attempted base-stealers and has helped lead a Stockton staff that has the second-lowest WHIP in the Cal League. This is Maxwell's second All-Star appearance, as he was a Midwest League honoree last season.

Streich is 6-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 12 starts for Stockton. He is third in the Cal League in strike-outs with 67 and he has allowed just three homeruns in 63.1 innings. Streich's 1.18 WHIP is seventh-best in the league amongst starters.

Powell is in the starting line-up for the Midwest League's Western Division. Powell currently leads the league in hitting with a .340 average and is tied for the league-lead in OBP with a .453 mark. His 888 OPS is sixth-best in the league.

Baez has a .262/.273/.366 line through 191 at-bats. The right-handed hitter has hit well against left-handed pitching, posting an 826 OPS. This is Baez's first experience in a full-season league.

Finnegan has been the Snappers' most consistent starter this season. The 2013 draft pick is eighth in the league in ERA with a 2.51 mark through 11 starts. Finnegan has a 5-1 record and a 1.11 WHIP. He has held opposing batters to a .217 average.

Avila has been in the Snappers' bullpen for the entire season. In 25.2 innings, he has a 3.16 ERA and a 21:5 K:BB. Avila leads the Snappers with six saves. In May, he had a 1.54 ERA and a 10:1 K:BB in 11.2 innings.
