Quick Hits: Frankoff, Healy Promoted

Several players moved rosters on July 1. We have the rundown of all of the newest player movement within the Oakland A's system.

Healy, Frankoff Promoted

The A's promoted relievers Tucker Healy and Seth Frankoff to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. River Cats' relievers Jose Flores and Deryk Hooker were sent to Midland to make room for Healy and Frankoff.

Healy began the season with High-A Stockton and he posted a 1.04 ERA in 17.1 innings before being promoted to Midland. With the RockHounds, Healy had a 2.33 ERA in 19.1 innings. Combined Healy struck-out 58 and walked 10 in 36.2 innings. He allowed just 26 hits. Healy made his debut with Sacramento on Tuesday. He allowed a solo homerun in 2.2 innings. Healy struck-out four and walked none.

Frankoff served as the RockHounds' closer for most of the season. He saved 15 games and posted a 2.41 ERA and a 47:11 K:BB in 33.2 innings. Frankoff pitched in the Texas League All-Star game, as well. He also debuted with Sacramento on Tuesday and allowed three runs on two hits and a walk in 1.1 innings. Frankoff also committed an error. He struck-out one.

Flores and Hooker both signed with the A's as minor league free agents this off-season and both were non-roster invitees to big league camp. Flores had a 4.60 ERA in 29.1 innings. He posted a 25:17 K:BB and batters hit .292 against him. Hooker had a 4.25 ERA and a 16:16 K:BB in 36 innings. Opposing hitters batted .305 against him.

Head Re-Assigned

The Midland RockHounds announced on Tuesday that infielder Miles Head was re-assigned within the A's organization, although where he was re-assigned to was not announced. The infielder is in the midst of a second frustrating season with the RockHounds. Last year, Head hit just .196 in 40 games with Midland before being shut-down for the season. He eventually had shoulder surgery to correct an injury that he originally incurred during the Arizona Fall League the previous October.

This season, Head was batting .219/.264/.362 with seven homers in 58 games. Head was acquired as part of the three-player package the A's received from the Boston Red Sox for Andrew Bailey before the 2012 season. In 2012, Head had a huge season with the A's, batting .333/.391/.577 with 23 homers and 84 RBI in 124 games between Stockton and Midland. Head was injured during his first game in the 2012 Arizona Fall League when he dislocated his shoulder on a swing.

Avila Moves Up

The A's promoted reliever Andres Avila to High-A Stockton from Low-A Beloit on Tuesday. Avila will take the place of Jeremy Barfield in the Stockton bullpen. The native of Mexico was a Midwest League All-Star. He posted a 2.67 ERA in 33.2 innings as the Beloit closer. He saved eight games and he had a 23:6 K:BB. He allowed just two homeruns. Avila made five starts for Stockton last season before spending the bulk of the year with Beloit.
