Oakland A's MILB Pitcher Of The Month - June

Who were the best pitchers in the Oakland A's system during the month of June? We take a look.

Oakland A's MiLB Pitcher of the Month – June
Seth Streich, Stockton Ports

Stats: 28.2 IP, 2.20 ERA, 27:3 K:BB, .214 BAA

Streich has been outstanding all season and June may have been his best month yet. The right-hander walked only three batters all month and cruised to a 3-0 record. Streich also pitched in the California League-Carolina League All-Star game. Streich is currently third in the Cal League in ERA (2.93) and strike-outs (88).

Streich hasn't walked a batter in his last three starts (16 innings) and he has allowed just three earned runs. If Streich remains with the Ports all season, he has a strong chance of landing on the league's post-season All-Star team.

Runner's Up

Omar Duran, Stockton Ports: (13 IP, 0.69 ERA, 20:5 K:BB) Duran is quietly putting together his best season as a pro, primarily because he is finding the strike-zone at a significantly higher rate than at any other time in his career. The hard-throwing left-hander has always struck-out batters at a ridiculous rate, but now he is limiting his walks to a more manageable amount. In June, he walked only five in 13 innings and he struck-out 20. On the year, his K:BB is 51:16 in 39 innings.

A.J. Burke, Vermont Lake Monsters: (18.1 IP, 1.96 ERA, 18:3 K:BB, 16 H) Burke is off to a fast start with the Lake Monsters. Burke has not only thrown strikes, he has also induced groundballs at a high rate (1.22 GO/AO) and he has held opposing batters to a .219 average. Burke could gain consideration for a jump to the Beloit rotation with another strong month in July.

Junior Mendez, Beloit Snappers: (27 IP, 2.67 ERA, 16:4 K:BB, .196 BAA) Mendez got off to a slow start with Beloit, but he has quietly been one of the Snappers' most consistent starters since mid-May. In June, Mendez smothered Midwest League batters, holding them to a .194 average. He had another strong start on July 1 and he has lowered his ERA from more than 11 at the end of April to 4.10 as of July 3.

Shawn Haviland, Midland RockHounds: (31.2 IP, 2.56 ERA, 20:10 K:BB) Haviland hasn't skipped a beat after missing all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander has a 3.25 ERA in 102.1 innings for Midland and Stockton this season. He began July where he left off in June, allowing just two runs on two hits in 6.1 innings on July 2.
