Payton's Place; WR On Top Three

Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast High School class of 2015 wide receiver Tristan Payton recently reopened his recruitment after being committed to the University of Florida since February. The 6-foot-2 and 190-pound senior is now considering offers from Ohio State, USC and UCF. The wide receiver says he feels like he may have committed to Florida too early into the recruiting process. He does, however, plan on making a decision on which school he will commit too within the next two weeks.

”To be honest, I felt like I committed too early but coming from nothing (no offers) to picking up a big offer from Florida, that’s everything,” Payton said.

Payton said offers from, and his recruitment by, USC, Ohio State and UCF caused him to rethink his commitment to Florida. He also said that those three programs are the ones he is giving the most consideration to right now.

”It made me feel pretty good. To come all the way from the west coast to Florida, it is kind of crazy to come across the other side of the country just to recruit a kid,” said an honored Payton of his USC offer.

USC coaches have told Payton he reminds them of former USC and current NFL wide receiver Marqise Lee.

”They kind of related me to Marqise Lee. That I have some of the same abilities that he has. They kind of related me to having the same abilities,” Payton said.

Payton plans on making an unofficial visit to USC sometime in August.

Ohio State offered Payton shortly after Florida but the receiver didn’t warm up to the Buckeyes until more recently. Now Ohio State is a front-runner in Payton’s recruitment.

”I actually got the offer a couple of days after Florida offered me. I had been trying to get an offer from Ohio State but they wouldn’t come to me until after Florida,” said Payton who is very interested in the Buckeyes now.

He has also been impressed with another in-state program.

”UCF, it was the first offer I picked up. You know a school like UCF, they are on the come-up. They had some pretty young kids and the coaches are all nice people. They have nice facilities, nice everything,” said Payton of his interest in the Knights.

Kentucky, Miami (Fla.), Wake Forest and Western Michigan have also offered Payton. Florida State is one of a number of programs that have shown interest in the wide receiver.
