TROY, NY - Kevin Ferreras took full advantage of his opportunity with the short-season Vermont Lake Monsters in 2015. The 22-year-old southpaw began the 2014 season with the Lake Monsters, but he was sent back to Arizona after only six relief appearances to make way for some of the Oakland A's 2014 draft picks. This year, Ferreras remained with the Lake Monsters for the entire season and he put together his best campaign as a pro.
The native of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic joined the A's organization in 2012, just two weeks after being released by the Miami Marlins. Ferreras put together two solid seasons in the Dominican Summer League before being sent to the States by the A's last year. In his first season pitching in the US, Ferreras posted a 6.35 ERA in 34 innings. He struck-out 31 and walked 17.
This season, Ferreras had a lot more success. He threw a career-high 47.1 innings and posted a 2.66 ERA for the Lake Monsters. He improved his command considerably, walking just 14. Ferreras struck-out 37 and held opposing batters to a .231 average. He put himself in position to compete for a spot on a full-season team next spring.
