Oakland A's prospect Chad Pinder's breakout 2015 season continued on Tuesday when he homered twice in the Arizona Fall League opener.
The Mesa Solar Sox lost their AFL opener, 8-7, on a walk-off hit by Kyle Farmer, but Pinder made it a game to remember with his offensive outburst. Both of his homers were no-doubters. The first was measured at 420 feet and was a solo blast in the top of the third. The second was a three-run homer that gave the Solar Sox a 7-5 lead in the top of the 8th. Pinder also had an infield single and finished the day with nine total bases, four RBI and three hits. Pinder won the Texas League MVP and the A's minor league player of the year awards after a regular season campaign that saw him hit .317 with 15 homers for Double-A Midland.
Fellow A's top prospect Renato Nunez reached base once via a walk in his AFL debut. He also made two nice plays defensively at third base. Pinder and Nunez were the only A's prospects to play in the Solar Sox's opener. Jaycob Brugman, Sean Manaea, Aaron Kurcz, Kris Hall and Brendan McCurry are the other A's representatives on the Solar Sox's roster.
A's prospects Rangel Ravelo and Max Muncy both homered in their winter league games on Monday night. Ravelo is 5-for-14 with two homers and three walks in five games in Venezuela. The homer was Muncy's first in Mexico. He has two hits and a walk in 10 at-bats over three games.
