Oakland A's Minor League Notebook: Shawn Duinkerk released

The Oakland A's first amateur signing from Aruba was released on Thursday.

The Oakland A's released outfielder Shawn Duinkerk on Thursday. Duinkerk is listed on the MiLB.com website as having been placed on the voluntarily retired list. Duinkerk was the A's first international amateur free agent signing from Aruba. The lanky outfielder signed before the 2011 season and reached full-season ball for the first time last year. He hit .240 with five homers in 94 games between Low-A Beloit and short-season Vermont. Duinkerk had a .218/.270/.312 line in 197 career minor league games. He turned 21 last August.

Duinkerk is the eight prospect to be released from A's camp thus far this spring.
