Game Preview: A's-Blue Jays - June 4, 2004

The A's look for their sixth straight walk off home win - and ninth straight win at home - when they square off against the Blue Jays on Friday night.

Toronto Blue Jays (24-30) v. Oakland Athletics (29-23)
Date: June 4, 2004
Time: 7:05 P.S.T.
Place: Oakland, CA – Network Associates Coliseum

Preview: Game 2 of this four-game weekend set matches Oakland's Rich Harden against Toronto's Josh Towers. While Harden will be making his ninth consecutive start of the season, this will be Towers' first start since April 23rd against Baltimore. So far this year, Harden has been consistently hot and cold by following up a quality start with a sub-par performance. Considering that in his last start against Cleveland he allowed 5 runs (3 ER) in only 5 innings, look for Harden to have a good performance tonight. With the injury to regular starter Justin Miller, Toronto promoted Towers from AAA on Tuesday to take his place. The A's will especially miss Eric Chavez's bat against Towers as Chavez has 6 hits in 9 ABs with 2 HRs versus the former Baltimore righthander.

Pitching Matchup:
Toronto – Josh Towers (0-1, 7.27 ERA)
Oakland – Rich Harden (2-3, 3.98 ERA)

Comments: In his only 2 starts this year, Towers pitched a combined 8.2 innings while yielding 10 runs (7 ER) and giving up 16 hits… In Harden's last start against Cleveland, he struggled with his command and walked 6 batters in 5 innings while only giving up 2 hits… As a rookie in 2001 with the Orioles, Towers pitched his only full season as a starter posting an 8-10 record with a 4.49 ERA… Harden ranks 12th in the AL in K's (52) and 10th in the AL in walks (27)…
