Sacramento River Cats, 4-3 winners over Las Vegas

The River Cats only had five hits during their home opener, but they made their hits count. The following were the River Cats' offensive stars:

Doug Clark: 2-4, two homers and a walk. Clark is red-hot and is hitting .448 on the season with three homers and five RBI.

Daric Barton: 1-3, double and a walk. Barton has upped his average to .320.

Midland Rockhounds, 6-2 winners over San Antonio

The Rockhounds pounded out 10 hits and six runs to beat the Missions on Friday. The following were the Rockhounds' offensive stars:

Vasili Spanos: 2-3 with a homer and two RBI. Spanos scored twice and walked once. He was off to a slow start, but he has been swinging the bat better of late.

Kevin Melillo: 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. Melillo also stole his first base of the season and helped turn three double-plays on defense. He is hitting .300 on the year.

Jason Perry: 2-4. Perry is hitting .303 on the year.

Lloyd Turner: 1-3 with a triple and two RBI. He also walked. Turner was out in center on Friday night.

Kurt Suzuki: 1-4, with a walk. Suzuki is hitting .407 on the season and he has walked eight times and he has yet to strikeout.

Ronnie Merrill: 1-4. Merrill's stat line wasn't as significant as his appearance in the line-up. It was his season debut.

Stockton Ports, 2-1 winners over Bakersfield

The Stockton Ports squeaked out a close win thanks to seven timely hits and outstanding pitching. Starter James Shull was outstanding, throwing 6.1 innings. He allowed only one run on four hits and he struck out 11. The following are the Ports offensive heroes:

Travis Buck: 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Buck's double was his second of the season. He is now hitting .238.

Richie Robnett: 2-4 with a double and both of the Ports RBI. Robnett is hitting .286 and has struck out only four times in eight games after striking out 151 times in 113 games last season.

Kane County Cougars, 16-3 winners over Clinton

The Cougars offense exploded on Friday, as they collected 19 hits and 16 runs. Every Cougar in the starting line-up collected at least one hit. Below are the myriad offensive stars:

Mike Massaro: 2-3 with a homer, four RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Massaro continues to be a success at the top of the Cougars' line-up. He is now hitting .382 and he has eight RBI.

Nick Blasi: 3-5, three RBI and two runs scored. Blasi is hitting .351 this season.

Frank Martinez: 1-4 with a homer and four RBI. Martinez is hitting .355 and is the team-leader in homeruns with three.

Jeff Baisley: 3-5 with two homers and two RBI. He also scored three runs. Baisley had been slumping during the early season, but he busted out of it on Friday.

Steve Kleen: 3-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kleen is hitting .393.

Anthony Recker: 2-4 with three runs scored and a walk.

Justin Sellers: 2-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. He is hitting .310 on the season.
