Kane County Notebook: Player Highlights

The All-Star break gave the Kane County Cougars a shortened schedule for the week. David Malamut has the player highlights for the five games that took place from Father's Day through June 22.

From Father's Day through June 22, the Kane County Cougars went 3-2. They closed out the first half of the season by getting swept by Cedar Rapids, then opened the second half by winning three out of four against Clinton. The All-Star game was played on Tuesday in Midland, Michigan, between halves of the season.

Below are some player highlights for the past week:

Scott Deal pitched well in his one start this week. He lasted into the sixth inning against Clinton on Friday, giving up seven hits, but only two runs. He walked one and struck out five and earned his second win in a row.

Scott Hodsdon pitched on Thursday and pitched well. He went six innings, giving up six hits and two runs. Only one of those runs were earned. He walked one and struck out six and threw 97 pitches.

Craig Italiano, who therw a scoreless inning at the Midwest League All-Star game, did not have his best outing on Saturday. He walked three in the first inning and only went four innings. Italiano gave up two hits and one run, but he was wild most of his outing. He threw 69 pitches.

Scott Mitchinson missed his last start due to elbow soreness on the 13th.

Jamie Richmond got rocked Sunday. He lasted into the fifth inning, but gave up 13 hits and six runs. He took his fourth straight loss, and he threw 90 pitches.

Larry Cobb had two hits on Thursday, with two stolen bases and a walk. The next day he went hitless, but he scored a run, stole a base and walked. On Saturday, he had three hits, including a double and two runs scored. Cobb had two at-bats in the Midwest League All-Star game.

Justin Frash has a four game hitting streak going. He has had two hits in two of those games. During that streak, he is 6-14 with a double, an RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.

Michael Richard has made an error at short in five of his last seven games played. He did go 4-4 on Friday, with the grand slam. During the week, he had a hit in all but one game.

Corey Brown had a homer on Saturday, his first in a week. He drove in three runs and stole three bases. Brown also had two RBIs in the All-Star game.

Adam Klein is in the middle of a 1-17 slump. He has a sacrifice bunt, three walks and a hit by pitch during that stretch and he has struck out six times.

Coming Up Next

This next week the Cougars go on the road to Quad City (St. Louis), Monday through Thursday. Then they go to Peoria (Chicago Cubs), Friday through Monday.
