Oakland A's MLN: HWB Wraps Up

The Hawaiian Winter Baseball league became the first winter league to finish its season over the weekend. We give you the final numbers for the A's prospects in the HWB and other winter news and notes inside...

Hawaiian League Comes To An End

The Hawaiian Winter Baseball league season has come to an end. Corey Brown and Chris Carter had quiet seasons for the North Shore Honu after posting big numbers during the regular season. Brown, who hit .266 with 30 homers during the regular season, hit only .216 with four homers and 33 strike-outs in 28 games for the Honu. He did homer in two of his last three games.

After hitting .259 with 39 homers during the regular season, Carter hit only .228 with two homers in 22 games for North Shore. He did finish on a strong note, stringing together a six-game hitting streak to end the season. Carter walked 17 times and finished with a .392 OBP. Brown and Carter may have been battling fatigue, as both appeared in more than 130 regular season games and an additional 12 games in the playoffs.

Right-hander Brett Hunter struck-out 18 batters in 9.2 innings of work with a save for Honu. He struck-out an incredible 10 batters in his final 4.2 innings of work. The A's 2008 seventh-round pick replaced Sam Demel in the Hawaiian Winter Baseball league after Demel was shut-down with a tired arm.
