Rangers Winterball Roundup – 1/2

On opening night of the postseason in Venezuela, shortstop Elvis Andrus reached base safely four times in five plate appearances. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Dominican Winter League

After pitching well throughout the winterball campaign, Aguilas Cibaenas reliever Johan Yan had a bit of a control meltdown at an inopportune time.

The sidearming right-hander suffered the loss in Wednesday's contest after he failed to retire any of the three hitters he faced in the seventh inning. Yan gave up three runs (all earned) after walking a batter and plunking a pair.

Venezuelan Winter League

The Navegantes del Magallanes kicked off their round-robin postseason campaign with a 10-6 victory over Lara, plating six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Magallanes shortstop Elvis Andrus contributed by reaching base four times in five trips––he had two singles, a walk, and a hit-by pitch. Andrus also stole a base but committed two fielding errors.

After playing the regular season with Aragua, infielder Yangervis Solarte was picked up by the Cardenales de Lara for the playoffs. Solarte got the start at third base and batted second on Wednesday, going 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.

Mexican Pacific League

Jose Felix's Algodoneros de Guasave also began their postseason on Wednesday. Batting ninth and starting at catcher, Felix went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before exiting in the eighth inning. He threw out one of three attempted base stealers from behind the plate.

Puerto Rican Winter League

No Rangers appeared in Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

Australian Baseball League

As usual, the ABL is taking the midweek off before returning to action on the weekend.
