Tennessee and Iowa won, Kane County split a DH, and Daytona got singled into submission

Tennessee 4, Huntsville 3

Tennessee hit three solo homers and Alberto Cabrera pitched six quality innings for the win.

Scoring: The Smokies grabbed a 3-0 lead on solo homers by Justin Bour, Matt Szczur and Rubi Silva. Huntsville pulled to within 3-2 but Christian Villanueva doubled for a 4-2 Smokies lead. The Stars added a run in the ninth.

Pitching: Alberto Cabrera went six innings for the third straight time recording his second win. The 6-foot-4 right-hander allowed seven hits and two earned runs with a pair of walks and five strikeouts. A.J. Morris got his first hold of the year retiring all six hitters he faced, three on strikes. Despite yielding a run in the ninth. Frank Batista got the final three outs for his second save.

Iowa 4, Nashville 1

Brooks Raley pitched six shutouts innings and the Cubs made the most of its three hits.

Scoring: Three walks and a groundout gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead in the first and they added two more in the fourth on J.C. Boscan's two-run double. After a Ty Wright single, Ryan Sweeney tripled for a 4-0 Cubs lead in the fifth. The Sounds ruined the shutout with a run-scoring double in the ninth.

Pitching: Brooks Raley earned his first win of the season tossing six innings of shutout ball with seven strikeouts. He allowed six hits and didn't walk a batter throwing 91 pitches. Yoanner Negrin ran his scoreless streak to 9.2 innings with two more scoreless frames. He allowed two hits and threw 31 pitches, 23 strikes. Cory Wade got a pair of strikeouts in the ninth but not before the Sounds got two hits and a run spoiling the shutout.

Game 1: Kane County 4, Beloit 3; Game 2: Beloit 8, Kane County 3,

Kane County rallied to win the opener but Beloit used a seven-run second to take the nightcap.

Game 1

Scoring: Three Kane County errors and three Beloit singles gave the Snappers a 3-0 lead in the first. The Cougars got on the board in the sixth on a walk by Gioskar Amaya, a single by Daniel Vogelbach, and a RBI double by Jeimer Candelario. Marco Hernandez doubled to score Vogelbach with one out but the Snappers would get out of the inning. Vogelbach drove in the tying run with a single in the seventh and Candelario put Kane County ahead with a sacrifice fly.

Pitching: Jose Arias threw four innings allowing three unearned runs on four hits and three walks with 3Ks. Jeffry Antigua got his first win of the season holding Beloit scoreless over the final three innings. The left-hander fanned three and gave up two hits and a walk

Game 2

Scoring: After Kane County took a 1-0 lead in the second on a throwing error but five hits, two walks, and a Cougar error led to seven Snapper runs. After a Beloit homer made it 8-1, Kane County got a RBI single from Wes Darvill after an error allowed a run to score.

Pitching: Michael Heesch didn't get out of the second inning allowing five hits and six runs (two earned) with a walk and two strikeouts. Brain Smith worked 2.1 innings giving up three hits and two runs (one earned). Steve Perakslis and Nathan Dorris both threw a shutout inning.

Clearwater 15, Daytona 6

Clearwater scored in every inning as they had 27 hits, 24 singles, off Cubs' pitching.

Scoring: John Andreoli's RBI single in the first gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead but the Threshers got it right back. The Cubs loaded the bases in the second and two infield ground out plated a pair for a 3-1 lead. Clearwater cut the lead to 3-2 but a Javier Baez homer and Dustin Geiger RBI single made it 5-2. The Thresher scored a run in the third and fourth and then knocked Searle out of the game with three runs in the fifth. The hits kept coming for Clearwater scoring one in the sixth and six more in the seventh for a 14-5 lead. The Cubs scored a run in the ninth on a throwing error.

Pitching: Ryan Searle was nearly unhittable in relief (8.1IP, 3H 0R), not so much in his first start. The right-hander allowed 15 hits and seven earned runs in 4.2 innings with five punchouts. Hunter Cervenka, pitching in his first game after being assigned to Daytona from extended spring training, was charged with three runs in two innings with four hits. Luis Lira got one out but was charged with four hits and four runs in the seventh. Catcher Taylor Davis pitched the eighth allowing a run on four singles.
