The thinking now is that Blue Jays right-hander A.J. Burnett will miss just one regular-season start.
Burnett will throw long-toss Monday morning, and in another two to three days he will throw off the mound in a bullpen session.
"If everything's fine after his bullpen, then we'll get him into our final game here (Saturday against Triple-A Syracuse)," manager John Gibbons said.
"In a best-case scenario, he'd have a start (at extended spring training) five or six days later and then be ready to rejoin the team. It may turn out that he'll only miss one (April) start."
Burnett, who experienced pain in his right elbow March 18 -- the diagnosis was scar tissue from a previous surgery was breaking apart -- likely will be placed on the disabled list at some point this week, meaning that the earliest he could be activated would be April 8. A more likely scenario would have him making his first start in the second week, depending on the weather in either Boston and Chicago.
Gibbons: Burnett Likely to Miss One Start
