SkyChiefs Held to Three Hits
The Syracuse SkyChiefs were held to three hits Monday night as they dropped a 1-0 decision to Buffalo.
Ty Taubenheim suffered the loss, dropping his record to 1-2 on the season. Taubenheim had a solid outing once again, allowing a run, on six hits, over six innings. The lone run came on a solo home run. The right-hander meanwhile struck out four batters, while issuing two walks.
Taubenheim has allowed one run or less in all four of his starts this season, and has gone at least six innings in all four starts as well. He has a 1.08 ERA in 25 innings, with opponents batting .187 off him. Left-handers have just one hit in twenty-one at bats off the right-hander this season. With runners in scoring position, Taubenheim has allowed just one hit in seventeen at bats. Opposing batters are hitting just .148 off the 23-year-old when runners are on base. Taubenheim has also not allowed a hit in the first inning this season.
Brandon League continued his effective pitching, tossing two scoreless innings. League has a 1.76 ERA in 15 1/3 innings this season. The one negative with League is that when facing left-handed batters, he has allowed five hits in thirteen at bats. League has recorded 32 ground ball outs, and just 3 fly ball outs on the season.
Adrian Burnside extended his scoreless streak to 6 2/3 innings, as he struck out two of three batters he faced.
Wayne Lydon, Mike Mahoney and Sergio Santos each had three hits for Syracuse. In other news outfielder Justin Singleton has PCL tear in his right knee and will be out four-to-six weeks. Rob Cosby, who played the outfield during spring training, will see more time in left field and right field.
New Hampshire Held to One Hit
David Smith had a double in the eighth inning of Monday's game, the only hit New Hampshire would get, as they dropped a 2-0 contest to Harrisburg.
Ismael Ramirez suffered his second loss of the year, allowing a run, on two hits, in five innings. Ramirez issued two walk, struck out four, and allowed a home run in his outing. The right-hander has allowed one earned run in each four of his starts on the season. Opponents are hitting .192 off Ramirez. Leadoff batters have seven hits in twenty-two at bats on the year, but Ramirez has allowed just three hits in thirty-three at bats with a runners on base, and with runners in scoring position, opponents are hitting just .125 off him.
Jamie Vermilyea allowed just an unearned run over three innings of relief.
Dunedin Scores Four to Win
The Dunedin Blue Jays scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 5-4 comeback victory over Fort Myers.
With two outs in the ninth inning, Eric Nielsen walked, Robinzon Diaz singled, and Dustin Majewski reached on an error, to load the bases for John Schneider's dramatics.
Schneider blasted a grand slam to left field and drove in all five runs of the game for Dunedin. He finished the game 2-for-4.
Diaz also finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double. Diaz extended his hitting streak to five games, and is batting 9-for-20 during the hit streak. He is hitting .333 (14-42) in 11 home games this season and has driven in seven runs. In five road games he has just two hits in eighteen at bats. Another notable is that Diaz has been playing at third base the past two games, a sign that the organization is finally set to move him from behind the plate, were he struggled defensively, and also struggled calling a solid game.
Ron Davenport went 0-for-4, after going 4-for-5 the last two games. Ryan Patterson went 0-for-3, and has seen his average fall from .378 to .282 the past six games.
Jesse Litsch allowed two earned runs, on six hits, in five innings. The right-hander issued a walk, while striking out four batters. Despite having a 4.43 ERA, opponents are hitting only .230 off the right-hander, who has issued just two walks, and has recorded twenty-three strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings. Right-handers are hitting .175 (7-40) off Litsch, while left-handed batters are hitting .277 (13-47) off him.
Danny Core pitched two scoreless inning, striking out three batters, while Daryl Harang picked up the victory pitching two innings and striking out four batters, while allowing a run.
Lansing Scored Two in Ninth to Win
Jacob Butler drove in Yuber Rodriguez and Joey Metropoulos with a line double to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning which gave Lansing a 3-2 victory.
Sean Stidfole, making his first appearance of the season after Edward Rodriguez was sent to extended spring training, picked up the victory tossing three scoreless innings.
Starter Russell Savickas struck out ten over six innings, and didn't issue a walk, as he allowed one earned run, on six hits, over six innings. Savickas has struck out eighteen batters over his last twelve innings of work, and has a 1.52 ERA on the year, but has just one win to show for it. In 23 2/3 innings, the right-hander has walked four batters, while striking out twenty-six. Left-handers are having a solid time hitting Savickas on the year, posting a .311 batting average against mark in 45 at bats. Right-handed batters are hitting just .186 off him.
Butler drove in all three of Lansing's runs in the victory.
Sean Shoffit went 0-for-4 and therefore ended his 11 game hitting streak. Chris Gutierrez went 0-for-4 to snap his eight game hitting streak, and five game multi-hit streak.
