The second inning was just as effective for Yates, despite allowing a one-out infield single to Matt Miller. Curtis Thigpen gunned down Miller at second base trying to steal during the next at bat, as Yates retired Nolan Reimold to end the inning.
Yates began the third inning with his first strikeout of the afternoon – his league leading 14th strikeout of the Fall League. The right-hander then allowed a soft line drive double to Fernando Cortez, and a single to Travis Metcalf during the next at bat to allow the run to score. Yates caught Mitch Maier looking at a third strike, before inducing a ground out to second with Tulowitzki at the plate.
The final inning for Yates, was just as easy as his first inning. Brad Eldred was retired on the first pitch when he flew out to right field. Joseph Koshansky then struck out for the second out of the inning, and Matt Miller grounded out to third.
Chip Cannon belted his eighth home run of the fall in the seventh inning off reliever Ryan Keefer. Cannon swung at the first pitch he saw from Keefer with a runner on second base. Curtis Thigpen also singled later that inning.
Cannon finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, but also struck out once. Thigpen went 2-for-5 with a double, and two runs scored.
Jordan DeJong pitched the ninth inning and retired the side in order. Nolan Reimold led the inning off by fouling out to third base. DeJong then caught Adam Donachie looking at a called third strike, and struck out Fernando Cortez swinging.
Yates tossed four innings, allowing three hits, one run, and striking out three, without walking a batter. DeJong tossed a scoreless inning, fanning two batters.
