Jays' Agree to Deal with Mayorson

InsideTheDome has learned that the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms on a minor league deal with Manny Mayorson.

The slick fielding infielder was originally declared a free agent on October 15 after failing to come to terms with the club as a six-year free agent, but after testing the market, he decided to sign once again with the Blue Jays for the 2007 season.

The 23-year-old batted .277 in 125 games with Double-A New Hampshire this season, while playing both shortstop and second base. He proved to be a clutch player for the Fisher Cats after batting .327 with runners in scoring position.

It was the best season of his six year career, but he was still unable to find a better opportunity than the one the Blue Jays presented for him.

"He's a nice player to have in your system," said one evaluator. "He has an outstanding glove, always makes contact with the ball at the plate, and has above average speed."

Mayorson is expected to begin the 2007 season with Triple-A Syracuse.
