Kyle Ginley spent the entire 2007 season with Lansing but struggled over 26 starts going 7-6 with a 4.73 ERA. The hard throwing right-handed pitcher showed solid command of his pitches, but did not show the movement he's been showing this season.
Ginley has struck out twenty batters over his last sixteen innings and in 22 2/3 innings so far this season he is 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA. Ginley continues to give up his far share of hits, allowing 28 so far, however, he's getting the job done when runners reach base, holding opponents to a .184 batting average against mark.
Scouts rave about the arm which the 21-year-old hurler has.
"His fastball is an outstanding pitch for him, and it's going to be a devastating pitch as he matures," said one talent evaluator. "My only concern is his ability to pitch to left-handed batters."
The numbers back up that assessment as left-handed batters are hitting 20-for-47 off the right-handed pitcher.
Ginley is currently working on a changeup which he hopes he can improve and use it as an equalizer against left-handers in the batters box.
If Ginley keeps up the dominating stuff over the next three weeks he could be making the trip back south to join the Florida State League.
It was a surprise that Ginley began the year with Lansing after spending all of last season with them, however, the organization wanted Ginley to work more on his offspeed pitches, since his fastball ranks of his most advanced pitch. However, Ginley didn't put his head down and think of this as a setback, but rather has worked hard to show the organization he can follow instructions and make the best out of all circumstances.
