BravesCenter Senior Columnist Jason Ross reports that onne of the candidates for firstbase in the 2005 season in Atlanta, Adam LaRoche has been sent to AA Greenville where he is expected to be the starting firstbaseman. The first baseman is batting .545 (6-for-11) this spring, and drew rave reviews from Gary Sheffield, Chipper Jones, and Bobby Cox. LaRoche hit .336 at Class A Myrtle Beach last year when he was promoted to Class AA Greenville. He batted .289 and knocked in 19 runs in 45 games at Greenville. Though he was promoted to Richmond last year, the Braves prefer that he get some more time in at Greenville before his next promotion.
This move solidifies the news that Mike Hessman will be sent to AAA Richmond where he will be the starting firstbaseman. Hessman had a solid spring both offensively and defensively, but Bobby Cox decided that he would rather carry Julio and Matt Franco as backups/platoon partners for Robert Fick.
