Hawks, Thrashers Sold

In a move that could spell changes soon for the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Businessman David McDavid has agreed in principle to buy the Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers in addition to Phillips Arena from AOL-Time Warner, according to published reports.

Several published reports across the Internet indicate that millionare David McDavid has agreed in principle to buy the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers from America Online - Time Warner. The deal is in the process of being finalized and could be announced by the end of the week.

This move could possibly be an indicator of things to come for the Atlanta Braves. Several investors were rumored to be interested in purchasing the Braves over the offeseason, including Media Mogul and previous Braves owner Ted Turner. Turner announced publicly that he did not have enough money to purchase the Braves, and talk of the Braves being sold died down shortly thereafter.

With the Hawks and Thrashers off AOL-TW's platter of assets they are willing to sell, the Atlanta Braves could very well be next. Several promiment Atlanta icons have publicly talked about their unhapiness with AOL-TW including Baseball Home Run King, Henry Aaron, who lent his support to Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Forbes Magazine estimated the Braves market value is in the neighborhood of a whopping $500 Million dollars.
