R-Braves Nip Clippers 1-0

Andy Pratt served up 6 innings of one-hit ball to the Columbus Clippers as the Richmond Braves defeated the Clippers 1-0 Sunday at The Diamond.

RICHMOND, VAMike Hubbard's two-out double in the eighth inning scored Travis Wilson as the Richmond Braves defeated the Columbus Clippers 1-0 at The Diamond Sunday afternoon.

Richmond starter Andy Pratt fired six innings of one-hit baseball before giving way to the bullpen. Travis Phelps, Buddy Hernandez, and Bobby Jones followed with three shutout innings as Richmond won for the second time in three games versus Columbus. Hernandez (2-0) became the Braves' first two-game winner, working 0.1 innings for the victory. Jones pitched the ninth inning to record his second save.

Columbus' Danny Borrell held Richmond to four hits over seven innings in his second Triple-A start. Willie Banks (0-1) came on in the eighth, allowing an unearned run on three hits, a walk, and an error to get the loss.

Travis Wilson led off the eighth with a single through the left side. He later advanced to second on an error by the Clippers' Dave Post and to third when Nick Green grounded into a double play. Hubbard then laced a double down the left field line to score Wilson with the game's lone run.

Jesse Garcia and Johnny Estrada led the Braves offensively with two hits each. Estrada, who went 2-for-3 today, is now hitting .500 through nine games.

The Braves and the Clippers meet again Monday at The Diamond in a 7:00 p.m. contest. The game can be heard on WXGI AM 950 at 6:45 p.m.
