Richmond Swept by Toledo; 2-1 in game one and 3-2 in game two
In the first game of a double header, Toledo beat Richmond 2-1 Thursday night when Witt hit a home run off Buddy Hernandez in the seventh inning with the game tied at 1.
Ryan Glynn had a great outing for Richmond. Just off the DL with a strained groin, Glynn gave up one run off three hits in six innings. He walked no one and struck out 9.
Mike Hessman drove in the only run for Richmond
In the nightcap, Toledo scored two runs in the first and another run in the third to take a 3-0 early lead. Richmond could only manage single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Derrick Lewis took the loss for Richmond. He went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Lewis is now 0-2 on the season.
Richmond plays game three of the series in Toledo tonight at 7:00.
Greenville beats West Tennessee 7-6
The G-Braves got a good start from Bubba Nelson, more power from Adam LaRoche, and another save from Kevin Barry to beat West Tennessee 7-6.
Nelson pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Bubba improved to 2-0 on the season while seeing his ERA rise to 1.13.
Adam LaRoche hit his fifth home run of the season in the third inning. The game was tied at two in the sixth inning when Pete Orr hit a grand slam to give Greenville a 6-2 lead.
West Tennessee battled back to within one run with three in the eighth. Then Kevin Barry put two runners on in the ninth inning, but was able to escape further trouble to pick up his fourth save of the season.
The G-Braves return home to Greenville tonight to open a series against Tennessee. Game time is 7:15.
Myrtle Beach falls to Kinston 5-1
The Pelicans offensive troubles continued Thursday in losing to Kinston 5-1.
Myrtle Beach managed only one run in the ninth inning, coming on a single by Designated Hitter Brayan Pena.
Kinston scored three in the fourth off of Myrtle Beach starter Matt Wright, who fell to 0-3 on the season. David Mendez, just off the DL, allowed two more runs in the fifth inning.
The Pelicans have not hit a home run this season
Game two is at Kinston tonight starting at 7:05.
Rome shuts out Capital City 4-0
Behind a great pitching performance from Dan Meyer, the Rome Braves beat the Capital City Bombers Thursday night 4-0.
Meyer got his first win of the season by pitching six shutout innings, allowing only three hits, striking out five, and not walking a batter. Meyer's ERA is now at 3.00.
Rome's runs came on home runs in the fifth inning. Yaron Peters hit his first home run of the season. Alonzo Ruelas hit a three run home run; his average is now at .500 on the season.
Rome plays Game 2 of their series with Capital City tonight at 7:00 at State Mutual Stadium in Rome.
