The Richmond Braves were off on Sunday. They begin a two game series in Columbus tonight at 7:05. Jason Marquis will pitch his first game for Richmond on Tuesday night.
Marquis will join a very strong Richmond rotation. Joe Dawley has not fared well in his first two starts, but most believe he is a big league pitcher simply needing to find room. Ryan Glynn is back after missing a start with a groin injury. Glynn, a former Texas Rangers starter, impressed Braves coaches in spring training. Andy Pratt had a decent start this past Friday night and has an ERA of 2.87. Finally, former Royals pitcher Chris Fussell has pitched well in his four games, sporting an ERA of 2.89.
Losing Johnny Estrada to Atlanta will hurt the Richmond offense. He was batting .392 with 16 RBI. Mike Hessman will be counted on a little more for additional production. After a slow start, Hess has his average up to .259 with two homers.
Greenville lost 4-2 to Tennessee on Sunday night as the Smokies got two runs in the ninth inning off G-Braves closer Kevin Barry.
Matt Belisle had his best start so far this season, going seven innings, allowing only one run on five hits.
Cory Aldridge got his first homer of the season for Greenville.
The G-Braves play game 2 of the series against Tennessee tonight with Adam Wainwright (0-1) on the mound for Greenville.
MYRTLE BEACH (4-11)
The Pelicans were defeated 9-2 on Sunday by Kinston. A rough start for recently demoted Daniel Curtis. He went 2 and 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (four earned) on eight hits.
Once again no home runs for the Pelicans. That's 0 homers in 15 games.
Game two between Kinston and Myrtle Beach is tonight at 6:05 at Coastal Federal Field.
The Rome Braves flew north Sunday to start an eight game road trip against Lakeland and Delvarva.
Rome has had excellent starting pitching through its first sixteen games. Kyle Davies (2-0, 0.48 ERA) and Anthony Lerew (0-0, 2.40 ERA) have been outstanding. Dan Meyer (1-0, 3.00) has also been solid, walking only two batters and striking out seventeen in his first fifteen innings.
Francoeur watch: .237 with 2 home runs, 8 RBI, and 3 stolen bases.
