Richmond drops second game of series to Charlotte 7-5
Charlotte top prospect Joe Borchard went 2 for 5 including a two run home run (1) to lead the Knights over the Richmond Braves 7-5 at the Diamond on Thursday night.
Richmond starter Andy Pratt was hit with the loss (0-2). Pratt pitched four innings, allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits. He walked one and struck out three.
Jesse Garcia had triple that scored two for Richmond. Ramon Castro had a two run scoring single as well.
Richmond (9-12) plays the rubber game of the three game series with Charlotte on Friday night. Chris Fussell is scheduled to pitch for Richmond.
Greenville bounces back with 4-3 thrilling win over Carolina
After getting trounced 20-4 on Wednesday, the Greenville Braves rebounded with an exciting 4-3 victory over the Carolina Mudcats.
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the ninth, Cory Aldridge led off by getting hit by a pitch. He moved to second when Lee Evans was hit by a pitch, and later scored the winning run on a passed ball.
Brett Evert started and went six strong innings for Greenville. Evert went six innings, allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits. Evert walked two and struck out two. Evert also had a two run scoring double for the G-Braves, which edge back over the .500 mark with a ten and nine record.
Game three of the four game series with Carolina is Friday at 7:15. Roman Colon (2-0) is scheduled to pitch for Greenville.
Myrtle Beach wins third in a row
For the second straight game, Myrtle Beach outfielder Charles Thomas was a hero singling home Isaac Iorg in the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie with Salem, giving the Pelicans a 3-2 victory.
Thomas had a walk off home run for the Pelicans on Wednesday.
Salem got single runs in the first and fourth inning off Myrtle Beach starter Matt Coenen. Then the Pelicans tied the game with RBI singles from Greg Miller and Aaron Herr.
Coenen went five innings, allowed two runs on three hits. He walked four and struck out three. Denny McDaniel (1-0) got the win with a scoreless ninth inning.
Myrtle Beach is now 7 and 12 on the season. Daniel Curtis will pitch Friday for the Pelicans against Salem.
Rome win fifth straigh with 4-2 win over Lakewood
The Rome Braves improved to 13-7 on the season with a two run victory over the Lakewood BlueClaws Thursday night.
Jose Capellan pitched his best game of the young season, going five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out five.
Matt Merricks pitched well again in relief. He picked up the win (2-1) by pitching four scoreless innings.
Yaron Peters went two for five with 2 RBI for Rome. Carlos Guzman and Jonathan Schuerholz had the other RBI for the Braves. Jeff Francoeur went three for four to improve his average to .293.
Rome moves on to start a four game series against Delmarva on Friday night. Kyle Davies, who has gotten off to the best start of the Braves minor league starters, is scheduled to start for Rome.
