There are rumors the San Diego Padres are interested in Richmond Braves starting pitcher Jason Marquis.
TBS announcers mentioned the rumor over the weekend on the Braves-Padres broadcast. The Padres have been decimated by injuries to its pitching staff, so adding Marquis would help a team in dire straits.
The Braves were interested in Padres prospect Dennis Tankersley over the offseason when the two teams were discussing a deal involving Marcus Giles and Brett Tomko. Tankersley had one poor outing for the Padres this season, but has started seven games for AAA Portland. Tankersley is 2-4 with an ERA of 3.79. He has allowed 28 hits in 35.2 innings pitched while walking 19 and striking out 37. The Braves are said to be interested in Tankersley in any deal for Marquis.
Marquis had a rough outing Monday night for the Richmond Braves. He allowed seven runs on eight hits over five innings. Marquis is now 2-2 on the season for Richmond with an ERA of 5.78.
