Four Pelicans to Single-A All-Star Game

Four Myrtle Beach Pelicans, heralded by Ace Macay McBride at headed to the Single-A All-Star to be held June 24th in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Read on to find out who else made the squad.

The rosters for the Carolina League vs California League All Star Game, which will be held on June 24th in Rancho Cucamonga, California, were announced today. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will have four representatives on the team.

Third baseman Andy Marte and shortstop Tony Pena were both voted in as starters for the team.

Marte, who was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2000, is hitting .294 with 5 home runs and 24 RBI in Myrtle Beach this year. In 2002, Marte burst onto the scene, hitting 21 homeruns and leading the South Atlantic league in runs batted in with 105.

Pena is hitting .274 with 3 home runs, 18 RBI and 9 stolen bases for the Pelicans.

In addition to the two infielders, the Pelicans will be sending two pitchers to Rancho Cucamonga as well. Starters Macay McBride and Matt Coenen will both pitch out of the bullpen in the game.

McBride, one of the Braves top pitching prospects, is 4-2 this season with a 2.38 ERA and has an excellent strikeout to ball ratio if 72 to 23 in only 68 innings pitched.

Coenen hasn't been as dominating as McBride this season, as he 1-3 with a 3.68 ERA. He has struck out 43 in 48 IP.

I will be attending this game and will have a detailed report of how the Pelicans players perform in the All Star Game.
