Manager Mike Shildt on Cardinals AFL pitchers

In the third of our 11 exclusive interviews from the Arizona Fall League, manager Mike Shildt discusses the St. Louis Cardinals pitchers assigned to the Salt River Rafters.

For 2013, the St. Louis Cardinals assigned four pitchers to the Arizona Fall League's Salt River Rafters.

Right-hander Sam Gaviglio is making up considerable time lost due to injury by starting in the desert. After working at Palm Beach in 2013, Gaviglio has a 3.58 ERA in the AFL. The 23-year-old has fanned 21 and walked 8 in 27 2/3 innings.

The left-handed trio of Anthony Ferrara (4.91 ERA), Dean Kiekhefer (3.72) and our Cards Minor League Reliever of the Year Lee Stoppelman (2.16) are seeing action in relief. All three pitched for Double-A Springfield this past summer.
