Mike Minor continued to show he is back on track with another solid performance Thursday as the Braves beat the Mets 6-1 at Citi Field.
Minor allowed one run on four hits in seven innings, with no walks and five strikeouts. The win improved Minor’s record to 6-8 on the season and his performance lowered his ERA to 4.70.
Since taking an 11-day break in early August, Minor has now allowed seven runs on 17 hits in 28.1 innings, with seven walks and 24 strikeouts. His ERA in those four games is 2.23.
In his prior seven starts, Minor had allowed 31 earned runs on 56 hits in 38 innings (7.34 ERA). That’s when the Braves gave him a few extra days off to work on his mechanics in the bullpen.
The Braves rotation has been excellent in the last week. Atlanta’s starters have allowed 11 earned runs in 40.1 innings (2.46 ERA).
Washington was off Thursday, so the Braves inch closer to first place. Atlanta (70-64) is now six games out of first place in the NL East and 1.5 games back of the Giants for the second place spot in the wildcard race.
The Miami Marlins hit Atlanta Friday to start a three-game weekend series. Ervin Santana (13-7, 3.60) goes for the Braves against right-hander Tom Koehler. Saturday night Aaron Harang (10-8, 3.60) pitches for the Braves while Jarred Cosart pitches for Miami. And in the series finale Alex Wood (9-10, 3.09) hopes for some run support from his offense as the Braves will face Nate Eovaldi.
The Braves then have a Labor Day game Monday as the Phillies visit Atlanta for the start of a three-game series.
