Braves have interest in Bradley

Could the Braves be targeting another outfielder before opening day?

Peter Gammons reported Tuesday the Braves might have interest in Boston outfielder Jackie Bradley, Jr. Gammons wrote the Red Sox will evaluate their outfield situation in spring training and a potential trade "is a post St. Patrick's Day discussion."

Bradley, Jr. is a left-handed hitting outfielder with great defense. He has hit only .196 in his first 479 major league at bats. Bradley has been one of Boston's top prospects since being drafted out of South Carolina in the first round of the 2011 draft.

Bradley hit .290 in his four minor league seasons with a .394 on base percentage. Those numbers made him a top prospect, with Baseball America ranking Bradley the 31st best prospect in baseball before the 2013 season and the 50th best before last season.

The Braves may be trying to buy low here, with Boston having Mookie Betts, Hanley Ramirez, Shane Victorino, Rusney Castillo, Daniel Nava and Brock Holt also on the Red Sox' depth chart. The depth may allow Boston to trade a player like Bradley.

With the Braves trade activity this offseason (10 deals) there is no reason to think they are finished. The new front office is obviously being aggressive in trying to improve the talent level in the organization, in the major leagues and on the minor league level.
